Bell Work-Tuesday January 6, 2015
• Performance Objective: “I can use technology as a way to display my learning”.
• Daily Objective: Today I will learn how to create a Kizoa.
1. How can you use the class website to assist you in your learning?
Kizoa• In this class, we explore, discover, and create
to enhance our understanding of past events, government models, and societal conflicts
• One way that I hope to assist you in doing that this semester is by integrating more technology into the classroom.
• Rather than having you number events in chronological order, you can now create a digital presentation, let me show you!!!
Getting Started
• You will need a valid email address– You can get a free email by going to yahoo.com or
gmail.com and creating a free account• After you have a valid email address, go to the
website kizoa.com
www.kizoa.com
Kizoa
• Click “Get Started”• Click either “Create an Account” or “Sign Up”• You sign up by using your email address• After you choose a username and password,
you will be emailed a confirmation– This is free, but there are upgrades that require
payment, I have always just used the free features
Kizoa• Now that you have an account, choose “Add
Photos/Videos”– Here is the trick, you need to have photos stored
someplace first. This is what I suggest you do• Go to Google and type in what you are looking for, i.e.
evolutions of tanks, select images• When you see an image that you like click on it and
then click view image, right click and select “Save Image As”-if you save it when it is the largest, it saves more clearly
Kizoa
• Next, a box will pop up and to the left choose the “Pictures” under Libraries
• Right click in the blank area and choose “New” and then click on “Folder”
• A new folder will pop up in the window, you can and should rename this folder to help keep your images orderly
Kizoa• Then double click on the name of the file and
from there you can name your image– After you rename your image click save– Now you can go back to Google and continue
getting images and saving them in your newly created folder
• Once you have all of the photos that you think you will need, you can go back to kizoa
Kizoa• Remember the “Add Photos/videos” button,
we are back to it• Click on it• Select from “My Computer”• Select “Pictures”• Select the name of your file
Kizoa
• If you want to upload more than one picture at a time, hold down the control button on your keyboard, it is in the bottom left corner and it says “Ctrl”
• Hold Ctrl and click on the photos that you want to upload, once you have them selected, click “Open”
Kizoa• Next click “Make a Slideshow”• Then click “From Scratch”• Now we are ready to begin creating our
slideshow• Let’s assume that we were given an
assignment to show how something begins, goes through changes, and then becomes a final product-sounds like a timeline to me!!!
Kizoa
• Click and hold on a photo that you want, just one at a time– Drag the photo to each slide, the strip near the
bottom and place it where it says “Drag Your Photo Here”• Once you have the photo dragged into the box, release
the click and the photo will be locked in the box
• Repeat this for as many photos as you have
Kizoa• After you are finished place your photos into the
strip, you are now ready to add some excitement to your presentation
• Click on the “Transitions” tab– Transitions allows your images to make fun
movements from one image to another– Click and drag a transition to the box next to the
image that says “T”-release and the transition locks into the box-can be different for each slide
Kizoa
• It is important to note here that not all transitions are free, so I tend to stick with the most popular for all of the different enhancements
• You will notice to the left of the screen that there are several different categories-some will be free, but some will require a charge
Kizoa
• Now click on “Effects”• Find an effect, click and drag it onto the photo
and release it-it will bring you to a new screen• If you like it, click “Validate” you will need to
click “Validate” again• If not, click the red X
Kizoa
• Click “Text” next (no rhyme intended it just flowed that way, hey!!!)
• Click and drag a text onto the photo• Release the text and it will lock into the photo
and a new screen will pop up• There will be a white box that says “Your
text”-type what you want to say in there
Kizoa
• Note: You can change text font, color, etc., but I usually do not just to keep it simple
• If you like it, click “Validate” and then “Validate” again
• If you don’t like it, click the red X
Kizoa
• Now click on “Animations”• Find the animation that you want, click and
drag it onto the photo that you want• Once at the photo, release it and it locks into
the photo, a screen will pop up• Use the slide bar to adjust the
size of your animation
Kizoa
• You can click on the animation and move it anywhere on the photo
• Click “Validate” and then “Validate” again if you are happy with it
• If you do not like it, click the red X
Kizoa
• Click “Music”– Note: There are many options, including adding
your own, but it will cost you!!! You can never accidentally add something that costs so don’t worry about that
Kizoa
• Once you click music, a screen pops up, read it and then click out of it
• There are many free choices to select from and when you click on one, you can hear a sample of it
• Once you found one, click on it and drag it to the picture where you want the music to start
Kizoa
• You can only use music once in a slideshow and it will play until you tell it to stop
• You may not use more than one song per slideshow– Those features cost money!!!
Kizoa
• Now over toward the right corner, click “Save”• Name the slideshow and click “Save”• Now you can click “Play Slideshow”• You can use this for fun or for classes• It is designed to use for fun, and learning is
fun, so have fun!!!
PowerPoint
• Using a PowerPoint is not intended to be used as a place to paste or type a ton of writing
• PowerPoint is intended as an outline that offers visual aids and links
• As professionals, you would not make the “Big Presentation” a success if you went in front of people and read to them, you need to present
PowerPoint Math: The 1-6-6 Rule
6X6 Rule
• This is a common rule to follow• Bombarding your audience with this much
text in a presentation is a sure-fire way to stimulate boredom, apathy or revolution. Don't do it.
PowerPoint• Use images and short videos• To be a great speaker, and to reach as many
members of your audience as you can, use clear and engaging images
• Use videos that enhance a point and are not the point-keep them short, if you have a 10 minute presentation, then no more than a 1 minute video clip-another rule, 10-1 video rule
PowerPoint• Minimize text and avoid long runs of text-only
slides. Break things up. Throw in some pictures for visual variety; add a video clip; use a prop; occasionally turn the screen black and – ready for this– just speak to the audience.
• There are many ways in which to create an engaging presentation so that, when you do show important text, your audience will actually want to read it.
PowerPoint• These are general rules and not the absolute, but they
will help you be clear, organized, and professional– See even I just failed to use them!!!!– After all, each and every one of you is a professional
student, it is your job and the law that you are in school• Last tip: Do not use lengthy animations, your audience
gets bored-remember PowerPoint is YOUR outline and not your presentation, you are your presentation
