It seems like just yesterday thatI was reflecting over 2014 andnow here it is time to look backon 2015! Where has the yeargone? Does time go by faster eachyear or is it because I am older itappears to slip by more quickly?
Which ever it is, 2015 has beena banner of a year for BelmontVillage St. Matthews. We have theprivilege of having an incrediblegroup of residents, familymembers and staff to make up ourBelmont family. Looking back at2015, I can recall Bernadettedressed up as a “Jilted Bride" at ourrecent Halloween party, to thecolorful Jockey Silk Jackets madeby residents and staff that weredisplayed during Derby, to seeingBev DeYoung lead our Mardi GrasParade in her purple fur jacketplaying “When the Saints GoMarching In” on the horn. It allcreated wonderful memories wecarry into the next year with us.
We also fondly remember theresidents who passed this year andconsider the honor we had to bewith them and their familiesduring their last days.
To say that we, here at BelmontSt. Matthews, have the MOSToutstanding staff - well it’s a trueunderstatement! Staff who havebeen with us for now over 16years—from the PALS and Nurses,Concierges and Drivers, KitchenTeam, Maintenance and
Management Team—each personoffering their own uniquepersonality to make us the familywe are. Please remember togenerously donate to ourEmployee Holiday Fund. Eachyear we have an EmployeeHoliday Party where we give allnon-management staff members agift card from YOU—our residentsand family members. Last year Iwas pleased to give out the highestamount that had ever beendonated. I trust that this year wewill exceed that amount! Pleasegive checks (made out to BelmontVillage Employee Holiday Fund) tomyself or our Human ResourcesCoordinator, Lorenda Davis. Thedeadline for your donation isDecember 11.
Kathryn has exciting eventsscheduled for this month, and Iinvite you to join us for any or allof them! The holidays are aboutfamily and we encourage you tobring your family members herefor some “holly jolly.”
My door is always open for youto come and chat! I wish each ofyou and your loved ones a BlessedHoliday Season and 2016.

Holiday Apartment TourMost of our residents spent
years collecting beautiful holidayitems: ornaments, ceramicfigurines; trees; linens; stockingsand more.
We thought how fun it wouldbe to have a “Holiday ApartmentOpen House and Tour,” whereresidents can showcase theirholiday treasurers.

Congratulations to Wendy for VERYdeservedly becoming our newestEmployee of the Month!Wendy as been a Driver, ActivityAssociate and all-around “I’ll tryanything!" employee of BelmontVillage for three years. As a retired manager at theJefferson County School Bussystem, Wendy “retired” and thendecided a “fun part-time job”would be great. She found us andwe found her and the rest is history!Wendy has been heardsaying, “This is like getting paid tovolunteer and have fun.”Not only does Wendy drive asneeded, but she is always lookingfor fun and interesting things forresidents to do. She leads craft-and jewelry-making classes here. She routinely helps out otherManagers and team memberswithout being asked. She evenbrought her pup, Teddy, to be herToto to her Dorothy at ourHalloween party.Wendy has been married “forever”to her best friend, Terry, and has adaughter, Jessica, whom she“plays with” on weekends, eithercanning or making a variety ofcrafts.Wendy wins a $100 gift card andthe coveted Employee of theMonth parking spot (handy in coldweather!). CONGRATS, WENDY!
Belmont Silver BulletsIt’s exciting to see a number of
residents around the building onWednesdays wearing their blueT-shirts with “Belmont VillageSilver Bullets” on them, eager togo bowling in the afternoon.
This team started out with a fewresidents who wanted to gobowling and has grown to a greatgroup who takes up several lanesregularly at Ten Pin Alley!
What is fun is to hear a residentsay, “I can’t bowl. It’s been too long.I’m not able to throw anylonger.” Etc., etc., etc. Then whenWendy and Steve take them, theysee the handicapped lanes set upso that all they need to do is(strategically) aim their ball downa ramp for a strike and become anaddition to our team!
We are near the middle of ourseason and ALWAYS want newresidents to join in the fun. Nocharge, no special shoes
required— and most of the folksbowling use walkers.
As of this month, our topbowlers are Mary Rose Brizendine,Martha Steller, Maggie Bopp andKitty Stephens—not to say thatSidney isn’t always close behindtrying to catch that strike!
Check the calendar for ourbowling dates (usually twice amonth on a Wednesday) andmake the decision to, if not toplay, just come and watch andcheer us on!
Who knows—maybe nextseason we will start competingwith other Senior LivingCommunities!
