Like so many contemporary technologies abrasive belt grinding has its origins in the USA. The successful progress of this new development in surface finishing began in Germany in the 1920’s, initially in the woodworking industry, and later after improvements in belt technology, also in metal working. In the meantime the belt grinding machine was firmly established as one of the most indispensable items of production equipment.
For deburring, edge breaking, surface finishing or cleaning, belt grinding is consistently demonstrated to be the most economical production process.
IBS machines are designed and built specially for continuous production use. Together with a wide range of accessories they can be configured for almost any grinding or surface finishing application.
For any production process the optimum solution lies in the correct specification of both, abrasive finishing media and machine. Here IBS offers technical support and process development to provide the most cost effective solution for any application.

Belt grinding
Every machine in the IBS equipment range has performance criteria designed for specific areas of application.
Machines are designed basically with platens forfinishing flat surfaces, or with contact wheels andpolishing mops for profiled surfaces. Additionalequipment such as belt backstands, contact wheels, belt and mop guards, deburring and chamfering attachments define the applications for which the machine can be used.
Rapid changing of abrasive belts, contact wheels and accessories are inherent in the design of each machine. The shape and physical size of the work piece are the prime factors that will determine the power and configuration of the selected machine.
The key factor to optimum abrasive performance is the correct surface cutting speed of the abrasive media and the IBS range of machines offer the flexibility to provide the ideal speed for each process.
The following criteria is essential for selectingthe correct IBS machine:
• Supply Voltage: Standard voltage for all three phase motors is 400V/50 Hz. The K 100 offers the most flexible option for grinding, polishing, deburring, chamfering, edge breaking of most ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics and ceramics.
The unique design provides an instant 3 operating positions, and two reversible belt speeds switched on the side of the machine.
Belt change is instantaneous and does not require any dismantling of the machine. Belt tracking and tensioning are effected by single lever and handwheel adjustment. Clearance is provided for both abrasive and non-woven media belts.
Other distinct advantages of this very robust and reliable machine are the replaceable platen, integral dust compartment and thermal overload protection together with a comprehensive range of accessories that can be easily fitted to the machine without modification.

A range of machines that can be positioned at any angle from horizontal to vertical, available for belt widths of 100 mm, 150 to 200 mm and 300 mm. All machines have replaceable platens.

The KTA 900 has been designed to incorporatea machine, a dust extraction unit and a portablework bench into a compact portable unit toprovide maximum operator protection andincreased productivity.

The extractor comprises a pocket filter with an air volume of 900 cubic metres / hour to a high efficiency even in concentrated dust laden environments. As an additional safeguard a preseparator or spark trap is fitted to reduce the risk of fire from inflammable dust.
Separate adaptor plates are available for each type of IBS machine to ensure an airtight and dust free fitting.
The KTA 900 is indispensable when there is a requirement to move machines between different operations or cells in the production area. It not only offers a rigid base for fixing bench mounting machines but also provides an essential integral dust extraction system for machines that have to be relocated frequently.

Series KVSM
The KVSM is a purpose designed belt grinding machine.
For deburring and profiling rounded side edges.
The applications for this machine are numerous but typically open ended:Spanners, ring spanners, wrenches, combined pliers,bicycle cranks or any other hand tool or componentpart requiring a contoured or shaped edge.

This unique semi-automatic machine is designed andbuilt for continuous production use. The oscillatingmotion of the contact wheel centred about the datumface of the work support accurately mirrors the radius set by adjustment of the stroke and the diameter of the contact wheel.
The work piece is positioned manually on the work support table whilst the contact wheel generates the preset arc symmetrically around the edge that is being presented to the belt. This ensures a consistant and repeatable profile on every work piece part in the case of unskilled operators.
A 3 kW motor is used to power the grinding belt whilst a separate 0.25 kW motor is used for the eccentric drive. The oscillation can be adjusted between 50 and 500 cycles per minute and the stroke set to either �5 or 55 mm to suit the required profile.
The design of the drive and the idler pulley system ensures accurate belt tracking and a pneumatic cylinder provides controlled belt tensions even during high speed oscillation.
The height of work support can be adjusted to position the component centrally on the radius of contact wheel axis for symmetrical or non-symmetrical edge profiling.
The KVSM provides the ideal semi-automatic solution to produce profiles and contours on irregularly shaped forged or cast workpieces.

The rugged vibration free construction combined with the power available at each spindle end, renders this machine ideal for very heavy duty production cycles and high stock removal rates. Two separate grinding or polishing operations can be performed simultaneously and at different speeds on each machine side.
Each independent spindle end is belt driven via a stepped pulley easily adjustable for a choice of three separately chosen speeds for each side of the machine. To satisfy all grinding and polishing applications a variable speed option is available, either mechanically by gearing, or electronically by an AC frequency inverter which provides infinitely variable speed adjustment from 900-2800 rpm.
The wide range of accessories enables rapid belt or wheel changeovers for different applications. The easily adjustable tensioning and tracking unit allows rapid belt change. The machine is suitable for standard �500 or 4000 mm long abrasive belts with widths up to 100 mm. Maximum contact wheel Ø are 450 mm dia. x 100 mm wide x 35 mm bore. Spindle ends can be supplied with optional internal morse tapers for attachments.
Special guarding is offered to reduce the hazards caused by grinding materials that produce explosive dust.

The 72713 is a purpose designed machine for the manual grinding and surface finishing of precision components such as turbine blades and surgical implants. It is compact (small footprint), it is powerful and it is engineered to minimize vibration. It allows to select the ideal speed and to fit the contact wheel size and configuration to suite the component and operation.

Abrasive belts for flat platen machines
Every grinding application needs the ideal combination of an abrasive belt grinding machine and a grinding tool. Therefore IBS has a wide range of various belts for surface machining, which includes products from renowned manufacturers.
Combi abrasive beltsFor professional metal grinding in industry and handicrafts. Grains of zircon and corundum in binding agents made exclusively from artificial resins, on a robust belt of polyester fabric. Universally used for dry grinding of steel, grey cast iron, chromium and nickel alloys and non-ferrous metals.

IBS fleecy beltsUsed for polishing and matting steel surfaces and non-ferrous metal surfaces, removing burrs, derusting, cleaning and light grinding. An elastic nylon fleece with the abrasive grain in an artificial resin binding agent.

Various types of polishing wheels together with suitable pastes are mainly used for polishing, brushing and matting surfaces of metallic and synthetic materials. IBS has a wide range of polishing wheels.
Polishing wheels Type TPG-PDRound 100% cotton fabric cut-outs are corrugated and folded around a firm core. They have the advantage of indirect oscillation and do not produce high temperatures during the work. Wheels with an approximate width of �0 mm can be connected without gaps to produce greater widths.
Sisal wheels Type SGR-PDSisal fabric strips are arranged at an angle of 45° in the fibre warp in a circle around a firm core of cardboards as a spiral. Impregnation prevents the sisal fibres from falling out and increases the adhesion of brushing and polishing pastes.Sisal wheels are especially suitable for the fine grinding- / brushing, smoothing and pre-polishing non ferrous metals, steel and high-grade steels after grinding. 25 mm wide wheels can be connected to produce greater widths.
Flanges for wheels with paperboard coreAccording to the instructions of the producer the sewing of the paperboard core should be covered completely. The following flanges are available for the machines with a 35 mm spindle.
