About this CalendarFor the third consecutive year, Brooklyn Friends School celebrates the visual arts by sharing our students’ amazing
works of art in a published academic calendar. Selections from preschool through 12th grade are included; they repre-
sent a vibrant array of media in which the children create – painting and drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics,
sculpture, mosaics, woodworking, and three-dimensional art. We are grateful to the students who contributed their
art to the calendar and extend our appreciation to the Visual Arts Department and teachers who inspire our school
community every day. This 2013-14 school calendar also includes designations of several commemorative months to
foster awareness of the diversity in our community and our nation. (Source: DiversityCentral.com; Resources for Cultural
Diversity).

Mission StatementGuided by the Quaker belief that there is a Divine Light in everyone, Brooklyn Friends School cultivates an intellectually
ambitious and diverse community that celebrates each individual’s gifts. We challenge our students to value and em-
brace difference as they develop critical thinking skills and apply their knowledge and intelligence both in and out of
the classroom. In this rich learning environment, we inspire all members of our community to voice their convictions, to
discover and pursue their passions, and to seek truth. Our graduates are compassionate, curious, and confident global
citizens who let their lives speak in the spirit of leadership and service.
The School at a GlancePROFILE A college preparatory, coed, Quaker day school for students from preschool through 12th grade with a fam-
