During the procedure - Cont.The catheter will then be fixed to your skinsurface and attached to a drainage bag. We willexplain what is happening throughout theprocedure. The procedure usually takes aboutan hour, but may take longer.

In some cases, a stent may be placed acrossthe blockage to open it. If this is done, atemporary catheter may be left in place with adrainage bag attached.

Following the ProcedureYou will go back to the ward where your nursewill record your pulse and blood pressure aswell as check the catheter regularly. You willstay in bed for a couple of hours until you haverecovered. If you feel unwell at any time, please tell your nurse.

How long will thecatheter stay in? Only your specialist doctor looking after you cananswer this question. You will be reviewedregularly and the best treatment will be decidedby your doctor depending on your conditioneach day.
