President’s MessageGreetings:As we enter into a new year and a new season, I want to thank all those who helped 2009 be a success. It's impossible to name all, but Directors, Coaches, Referees, Administrators, Volunteers and Parentsthank you. These all helped to serve our primary "customer" the players. It will take another great effortfrom all to continue to improve our programs for the players. Changes and challenges will undoubtedlybe a part of the BYSL future. This naturally comes with growth. And we are growing.
If anyone wants to help BYSL we will find a place to use your talents. Please contact myself or anyBYSL Board member to ask how. 2010 looks to be another bright year for BYSL. Thanks again.Comments/suggestions about our programs are always welcome.

BYSL Director’s Of Coaching Message
Hello everyone,Winter has set in hard now and it’s difficult with all of the snowand low temperatures to think of the Spring season outdoors, but it is coming. One of the hardest things for our youngathletes is to stay fit through the cold and snowy months.
Many of our athletes do compete in other sports this time ofyear such as basketball, hockey, etc. and this certainly helps tomaintain their fitness. However, many of them are soccerplayers only and do not participate in other sports.
Off season conditioning is crucial for our athletes now, and willbe in the future for any that will move on to higher levels ofplay. Strive to set good conditioning habits early.
Indoor soccer is available here locally and is a great activitythat provides competition and touches on the ball or there is thenew Futsol league in Rigby. Indoor practices although limited, can be tailored to provide intensive conditioning as well.
Obviously, anything soccer-like or soccer-related is optimal forour athletes but there are also other options in the area such asweight training and aerobics through our local gyms (Apple,YMCA, Anytime fitness, Etc.), water aerobics, spinning, swimming, and even some custom programs for our soccerplayers. Please encourage your players to be active through thewinter months for a more productive, successful early season.Bottom line: Any activity you can get them involved in will bebeneficial.
And don’t forget our monthly District ODP training! Watch theIYSA and BYSL websites for dates and venues.
For all of our new coaches (and those that have already beguntheir 1-year time clock), District II is sponsoring our annual Eclinic (conducted by IYSA) here in Idaho Falls March 11-13th.For more information, please contact Bobbi Tracy [email protected]. If you are a BYSL coach working inany of our programs, the league will cover the registration feefor you.
Here’s hoping the snow leaves early, and I’ll look for all of youout on the Pitch!

The Far Post – Jan 2010US Youth Soccer: Welcome to the World of Soccer … Soccer is a universal sport. Everycountry in the world plays it. You and your child are joining over 3,200,000 youth players of USYouth Soccer. Go anywhere and you will be able to play and to become a part of the local action.
Comments from US Youth Soccer about Small-Sided Matches
Advantages of Playing Small-Sided GamesBenefits to the Child:
More time with the coach More practical space to be successful Increased number of contacts with the ball More actual playing time Energetic workouts due to playing both offense
and defense Required to make more quality decisions Experience repeating game situations more
frequently The work rate and involvement of a player stays
consistent While learning both offense and defense, a player
will become more complete and will understandmore readily the roles and importance ofteammates
The smaller ball is lighter and more easily kicked, trapped, dribbled, and passed.
Benefits of the Small Field: More efficient use of space Games can be played simultaneously across a full
size field Children are physically more efficient in smaller
space Takes less time to achieve goal or advance to
goal, more successful Children are actively involved for a longer period
of time
Basic Rules: Player Safety Player Fun Respect Sportmanship
These basic rules apply to players, coaches, parents, and spectators.
