Boosting Digital Transformation
SystemX has set itself a triple objective:
Address the challenges faced by industry in the design, modeling, simulation and testing of future innovations that increasingly entail digital technology, via four research programs: Agile Industry, Autonomous Transport, Smart Territories and Internet of Trust.
Share and broadcast the knowledge and skills thus acquired by means of technological platforms consolidated by the research projects set up by the institute and by training actions.
Ensure that the institute achieves a reputation of excellence on European and international scale so that it becomes the French reference for digital systems engineering.

Accelerating Digital Transformation
Launched in 2012, SystemX, the only Institute of Technological Research (IRT) in the Paris Region, is dedicated to the field of digital engineering of the systems of the future. The institute addresses the technological challenges of industry by means of flexible, open and collective innovation. Running of the institute is based on two fundamental aspects:
The co-localization of its talents: SystemX brings together in one place all the project partners, thus creating a melting pot of interaction between stakeholders of public and industrial research.
The pooling of skills and platforms: SystemX consolidates platforms by pooling many skills and technological bricks.
Labeled under the French “Investment for the future” program, an IRT is an interdisciplinary institute of technological research federating stakeholders from higher education, startups, SMEs and large industrial groups in a joint research program.
Territorial Anchoring
Located in the heart of the academic ecosystem of Université Paris-Saclay, SystemX is able to make use of the territorial dynamic created by the Systematic Paris-Region business cluster.

Agile Industryor digital transformation of the engineer’s job
SystemX improves the agility, productivity and competitiveness of businesses by using the digital technologies of modeling, simulation, design and optimization.
For this purpose, the institute develops software engineering methods and tools for complex systems.
Internet of Trustor cybersecurity at the heart of industrial infrastructures
SystemX participates in the evolution of digital infrastructures and their improved agility, performance and security, by developing new trust based architectures
and platforms for open experimentation.
Autonomous Transportor intelligence embedded in the autonomous vehicle
SystemX develops new secure, safe architectures for autonomous vehicles and transport systems, from design to approval, integrating the new usages, critical embedded systems, evolution of infrastructures and their interaction.
Smart Territoriesor the user at the center of tomorrow’s territories
SystemX contributes to the deployment of innovative services in intelligent territories, based on the notion of trusting usage. Accordingly, the institute
has developed modeling and optimization tools for mobility and energy solutions, and defined methods enabling digital trust-based services to be enhanced.

Providing Scientific Answers
The scientific research at SystemX is divided into three main subjects and they focus on the current industrial problems in terms of digital transformation:
SystemX welcomes renowned researchers to a Seminar@SystemX each month to present a scientific topic around digital engineering. These seminars help to bring together the players in academic and industrial research.
Usages and Collaboration• Human behaviors• User experience• Data analysis• Learning• Collaborative methods and tools
Modeling and Optimization• System architecture• Model engineering• Automated checking and validation• Operational research• Reliable embedded systems

Simulation and Infrastructures• Model reduction• Robust simulation• Multidisciplinary simulation• Geometric modeling
• Parallelization• Virtualization• Systems and networks• Cybersecurity
3
SystemX identifies and structures the technological challenges
to be resolved, and the scientific solutions to industrial problems.
These three aspects occur successively in the chain of digital engineering in a complex system, and form the core around
which all the institute’s activities are organized.
SystemX has set up reference technological platforms on which the institute’s teams create all the technological bricks developed in its projects. These form the basis for dissemination of the results, while also contributing to national and international visibility of its research activities.

A technological platform corresponds to a set of shared capabilities and services (the value created by the projects) implemented via a methodological
process, and relying on a common infrastructure (all the means and tools).
It enables the research projects at SystemX to share their efforts and facilitates re-use of their assets. Thus they are capitalized and sustained and can
accelerate the transfer of technology towards industry.

Spreading Knowledge
Integrated into SystemX research projects, the CRÉE (Cooperation - Research – Student – Business) projects enable students to put their theory into practice by dealing with “market” problems. Each CRÉE team comprises three students that bring pluri-disciplinary skills (systems, software, simulation, IT, marketing etc.) into the project they join, and contribute to the development of the technological platforms.

SystemX supports education in digital systems engineering at institutions of higher education and research, tailored to the needs of industry.
The institute contributes to the development of the skills required by engineering courses adapted to the market, via three main educational actions.
The START@SystemX initiative offers startups the possibility to use the innovative dynamic of our institute by joining our research projects. Access to the large groups and technology
suppliers enables them to build tomorrow’s new services by experimenting and testing their technologies on concrete problems. START@SystemX relies on the combined academic and industrial strength at SystemX. In its search for agility, the institute offers several subjects linked to its research projects.
