BRASSWEEK
2017
Léif Blechblosfrënn,d’Blechblosenseignanten aus dem Stater Conser-vatoire maache sech während der „Brassweek“ eng Freed draus, fir, zesumme mat jonke Schüler, internationale Solisten iwwert d’Schëller ze kucken. Mir wëllen eis vun hirer Erfarung a Leidenschaft ustieche loossen.
Zu Lëtzebuerg kenne Blechbléiser eng laang Traditioun. D’Enseignantë probéieren dës Traditioun oprechtzehalen an auszebauen.
Et ass net nëmmen eng sozial Interaktioun, et mécht och vill Freed zesummen ze musizéieren; an dat schweesst bekanntlech zesummen.
Mir wëllen e „Schantje vu jonken Talenter vu mar“ schafen, de Virwëtz stëppelen, Talenter erwächen, fir datt mir eis zesummen iwwertreffen.
Schüler si keng Fässer, déi einfach gefëllt solle ginn, mee Feieren, déi entfacht gi sollen. An dësem Sënn stelle mir eis den Erausfuerderunge vun haut a vu mar, fir eise Schüler dat Beschtméiglecht kënne mat op de Wee ze ginn.
Zesumme wëlle mir duerfir mat der „Brassweek“ Kräften a Beweegung setzen, fir gemeinsam eisen Duuscht no Wëssen ze stëllen.
Grouss Leeschtunge gedeien besser an engem emotionalen Ëmfeld; duerfir kommt bei eis an hëlleft, datt all déi fromm Wënsch an Erfëllung ginn.

Wim Van Hasselt is professor of trumpet at the University of Music Freiburg in Germany and reg-ularly makes solo appearances and gives master-classes at home and abroad (Europe, N-America and Japan). As a soloist he played with orches-tras such as the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He’s also an active chamber musician in different ensembles and has appeared at the festivals of Lucerne, Bad Kissingen and Schleswig Holstein among many others.
Wim Van Hasselt was born in Turnhout, Belgium. He studied at the University of Music Karlsruhe with Prof. Reinhold Friedrich and Prof. Dr. Edward H. Tarr (baroque trumpet). He also attended masterclasses given by Ole Edvard Antonsen, Philip Smith and Markus Stockhausen.
As a former member of the trumpet section of the Roy-al Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam he worked from 2009 until 2014 under renowned conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Ivan Fischer, Daniele Gatti, Lorin Maazel, Andris Nelsons and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. During this time he also taught at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. Before joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra he had a trumpet position (2005-2009) with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin after having trained in the orchestral academy programs of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the State Opera Stuttgart. In addition to his extended orchestral career he has played with the Berlin Phil-harmonic and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
His first solo CD “On the Road” was released on the Channel Classics label, showing his versatility and feeling for style in an impressive manner. It includes a couple of works that have been composed espe-cially for this CD. The project was awarded the “Prix de Salon” 2010 of the Foundation Donateurs Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
His second CD “Tintomara”, released in January 2015 on Channel Classics, is a duo-recording with trombonist Jörgen van Rijen. It received an “Editor’s Choice” recommendation in the leading British classical music magazine Gramophone: “There is indeed little that these players cannot project in terms of multifaceted lyricism, color and dramatic presence, and this is matched by the very best in modern brass programming”.
Wim Van Hasselt’s new solo CD “Chant d’Automne” was recently released (autumn 2016), with works by Hindemith, Hartmann, Grunelius and Iván Fischer and featuring soprano Nora Fischer and the Buda-pest Festival Orchestra conducted by Iván Fischer, among other artists.
In the early spring of 2017 the first release of “Brass United” is expected, a chamber music group with musical friends Alexandre Baty (trumpet), Jasper de Waal (horn), Jörgen van Rijen (trombone) and Stéphane Labeyrie, tuba. The CD called “Pitch Black” will contain works by Berio, Albéniz, Jacob TV, James MacMillan and Bartók.

Thomas Rüedi was born in 1969 in Oberwil bei Büren near Berne, Switzerland and began playing the euphonium at the age of 11. He received his professional musical training on this instrument in England, the home of brass music, between 1991 and 1995. He studied under, amongst others, Phillip McCann and Peter Parkes at Sheffield University and also devoted his attention to the study of conducting, arranging and composition, areas which have also strongly influenced his professional life.
During this time he also performed with many top British brass bands. An important milestone in his career came when he was awarded first prize in the European Solo Competition for Brass Players in Munich in 1999.
His solo engagements have led Thomas Rüedi throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and the USA. Through this work he is involved with numerous symphony orchestras, wind and brass bands. On his continual search for new tonal spheres Thomas Rüedi formed the duo „Synthesis“ in collaboration with the marimbaphone virtuoso Raphael Christen. Together they convincingly combine the sounds of the two instruments to create a new whole. The joint CD production „Synthesis“ and Thomas Rüedi’s solo CD „Elégie“ received international recognition.
Thomas Rüedi is strongly committed to educational work. He is euphonium tutor at the Bern University of the Arts and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts; as a guest tutor he gives many masterclasses at colleges throughout Europe and overseas. As an orchestral musician he plays regularly with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and in other renowned symphony orchestras such as the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks or the Zurich Opera House Orchestra.
He proved his capabilities as a conductor through his work with, amongst other groups, Brass Band Bürgermusik Luzern (A-Band), where he was musical director between 1995 and 2002, and with Seeland Brass between 1997 and 2006. As guest conductor he conducted the winning band, Brass Band Berner Oberland, at the Swiss Open and European Open contests in Lucerne in 2004.
Thomas Rüedi has also made a name for himself as arranger and composer. His oevre includes over fifty works for wind instruments. His many arrangements of Swiss folksongs have, in particular, earned a place amongst the standard brass and wind repertoire.

INTUITIVE MUSIC AND MORE
