Jacques was a Catholic missionary and an explorer while Louis was a French-Canadian trader and explorer.
Jacques was born in Laon, FranceLouis was born near Quebec City and was raised in a Jesuit
seminary In 1672 Joliet was named the leader of the exploration of the
great lakes.After the expedition Marquette went back to preach to a tribe
of Illinois Native Americans until his death in 1675
