Research & Development
At our switchgear and development center, new products are designed indigenously and are
conceptualized before they are manufactured. Every such research center is coupled with a
manufacturing facility to maximize synergy. We file over 200 patents applications, design registration
and trademark applications annually. We are equipped with the state-of-the-art testing laboratories,
including a short-circuit testing facility capable of carrying out tests up to a rating of 85 kA. All our
electrical products are also tested by international laboratories like ASTA and KEMA. At L&T, taking
technology to a next level of efficiency is the key, with innovation as the driving force. For it is ideas

All our switchgear assemblies are highly customisable. Each requirement is critically engineered by our
engineering team to offer optimum solutions. We have designed and engineered a product even to
meet extreme weather conditions. We have a dedicated engineering team for each and every project

L&T�s Coimbatore Works was established in 2005 to manufacture low voltage switchgear for domestic
and international markets. Spread over approximately 35 acres of land, this state-of-the-art
manufacturing facility has three blocks for manufacturing and an administrative block. The facility also
draws support from an in-campus tooling facility. The tooling facility for switchboards developed by us
here is one of the first of its kind.

L&T�s Pragati at Mahape was inaugurated in June 2014 to manufacturer low voltage switchgear for
domestic and international markets. All the facilities and process at Pragati are above par with our
legacy manufacturing unit in Powai. Pragati, L&T�s new world class manufacturing unit at Navi Mumbai
has an operational area of 10000 sq. meters. It houses modules for manufacturing various ranges of
low voltage switchboards, shops for press working, brazing & tooling in addition to Occupational
Health Centre.

L&T�s Ahmednagar Works was established in 2007 to manufacture low voltage and medium voltage
switchboards for the domestic and international market. This facility has been made immune to dust
via a Forced Draft Ventilation System (FDVS) and a polyurethane floor coating. The manufacturing unit
is a state-of-the-art facility with high-end CNC turret punch presses, press brakes and a cutting-edge
powder-coating plant. Newly started GIS manufacturing is reinforced with standard SF6 gas filling
practices with dedicated clean room architecture. In addition, the facility has a well-equipped testing
facility.
Quality initiatives in manufacturing and services have taken root in our manufacturing culture.
Institutionalized initiatives through time-tested tools like Six Sigma and Value Engineering help spread
a culture of excellence and cost-competitiveness. The factory was established to manufacture :
