CAREER & TECHNOLOGY CENTER
PurposeTyler Independent School District’s Pathway Selection Guide is designed to assist students, parents, teachers and school administration in making informed decisions within the planning process of an individual students’ educational goals. Be sure to contact the campus which your student attends to speak with our school counselors about any questions you may have regarding a specic endorsement, pathway, or dual credit opportunities for your student.
EndorsementAn endorsement is a general focus area for students as they progress through their secondary course content. The TEA approved ve endorsements oered by Tyler Independent School District are within the focus areas of: Public Service; Business and Industry; Arts and Humanities; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and Multi-Disciplinary Studies. Some pathways allow for opportunities of dual endorsements, and are denoted with two endorsement seals and listed in each corresponding endorsement section.
PathwayWithin a given endorsement, students follow coursework within a specic pathway. The intention of pathways by TEA are to allow students focused opportunities for rigorous learning within coursework aligning to needs of industry occupations. Each pathway includes a four-year sequence which satises the requirements for the endorsement associated with that pathway. Some pathways have expenses not covered by Tyler Independent School District – visit with your counselor for more information.
Dual CreditSome courses within a pathway may provide students with opportunities to earn Technical Dual Credit. Oered at the high school level, credits earned via Technical Dual Credit may apply toward an associates degree or certication. Most Technical Dual Credit courses are free for Tyler Independent School District students – visit with your counselor for more information.
