The cement tile - also calledmosaic-tile - was born in1850 in the French regionof Ardèche. It was back thenan original and solid solutionway less expensivethan marble and stone.
It is handmade following a revolutionary processdiscovered by Etienne Larnande: hydraulic lime mixedwith calcinated clay, sand and water becomes a materialas hard as stone without being heated.
A liquid mortar made of pigments, marble powder and grey or whitecement is poured into a mouldusing a funnel. There is an infinitenumber of combinations thanksto mould dividers and a large range
of colours. The tile is hand pressed then unmoulded byhand. It stays out in the sun for three weeks for it to dry.
Cement tiles and their bold colours are beautiful in amodern interior while adding a little rustic touch.Follow your heart to get a very unique tile to decoratethe house of your dreams.
