FLAT CHARACTER
A character who has not been fully developed; a character we know little about
A two-dimensional character; no depth like piece of cardboard
A simple character; a character who is too obviously all good or all bad
ROUND CHARACTERS A character who has been
fully developed by the author; a character we know a lot about
A three-dimensional character; a realistic character
A complex character, a character with strengths and weaknesses.
ROUND CHARACTERS ARE JUST LIKE PEOPLE!
DYNAMIC VS. STATIC
Dynamic Static Change or grow as a result
of the story’s actions Learn something about
themselves, other people, or the world as they struggle to resolve their conflicts.
The changes that a dynamic character undergoes contributes to the meaning of the story.
Do not change or grow Are the same at the end
of the story as they are in the beginning.
Subordinate characters are often static characters.
