Train the Trainer project
• 2 year Dept of Health funded partnership project with Breast Cancer Care
• 2 day Train the Trainer course and training resources
• Delivered in 8 areas where there was low uptake of breast and bowel cancer screening, high BME populations and high levels of social deprivation.
• Trained 102 participants, who went on to speak to more than 11,000 people in target audiences within six months

Participants completed a Bowel Cancer Awareness measure before and after course, then at 1, 3 and 6 months afterwards.

GP Study Days
• Aim was to improve early detection and to ensure best practice in diagnosis and management of bowel problems
The core objectives were to increase knowledge of: • Screening and the management and referral guidelines for
high risk individuals • How to differentiate patients who need further assessments
and by whom • How to differentiate minor from more serious symptoms and
their management

GP Study Days c. 200 GPs attended Session on bowel screening and flexisig highlighted as the session where greatest increase in knowledge and confidence to talk to patients. “When I see a patient and they turn out to be a non responder
to national screening - will now ask why”
“Have done an audit of patients who haven't done the BC screening to follow up on”

Learning Disability Project
• Launched in 2012 • Trained 155 carers in NHS Greater
Glasgow area and disseminated to more than 1,200 carers across Scotland
• Scottish Govt & NHS Health Scotland agreed to fund printing of resource to 2016
• Next step is to roll project out in England
