Director’s Summary :
SuMMit high school students are participating in the Work Bridge Program thanks to the cooperation of two FUSD employees, Nathan Woodbury and Amado "Junior" Gutierrez and the FHS Transitions Coach Claire Allain-Broeman. Students are learning the "ins and outs" of media and warehouse services. In addition to Work Bridge, SuMMit students continue to work successfully with Cavit Connect's Allied Health Services and Veterinary Assistant Program. We are extremely proud of our high school students.
SuMMit's 4th and 5th graders go to the Florence Community Garden each week for extended environmental science instruction and community service projects. Students learn about preparing soil, how vegetables reproduce, how to sow seeds, and garden maintenance. Students also take vegetables back to the classroom for taste testing! In addition to learning gardening skills, students are connecting their experiences in the garden to writing projects and science lessons in the classroom. Our 7 th, 8th and 9th
graders begin their garden visits next week. They look forward to similar exciting learning experiences.
SuMMit's 4th grade class is learning about service, gratitude, caring, and humanity. In December, students created baby books as a service project for The Kindness Connection - TKC Kind Kids Club. Our next project is almost complete; kids are creating cards for other children who have been hosiptalized for a variety of illnesses.
