Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this neces- sity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Prevent Identity Theft During The HolidaysAs the holiday shopping season approaches, consumers are once again preparing to do a signifi-cant amount of their holiday shopping online, while many others will rely on debit and credit cards to make their in-store purchases. Though banks and online retailers have made holiday shopping easier in many ways, that convenience has also made shoppers more vulnerable to identity theft.
The hectic nature of the holidays season can make it harder for holiday shoppers to recognize if their personal information has been compromised. As a result, many men and women do not real-ize that they have been victimized by identity thieves until after the season has come and gone.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, identity theft affects 10 million Americans each year, costing individuals and businesses $52 billion. But Americans aren’t the only ones at risk of identity theft, which can victimize holiday shoppers whether they’re shopping at the nearby mall or from the comforts of home. When shopping this holiday season, shoppers should consider the following safety measures to reduce their risk of identity theft.
* Confirm the legitimacy of online retailers. Many online scammers masquerade as legitimate businesses. Some may even steal logos or information from real businesses to make their scam appear more legitimate. When shopping online, stick to well-known retailers or verify with the Better Business Bureau or another watchdog organization that a Web site is operated by a repu-table business.
* Check for a secured browser. Reputable online retailers encrypt their customers’ personal infor-mation. Look for a “locked” icon on the browser before entering payment information, or check to see if the URL has an “https” prefix, which means the site is secured.
* Beware of credit card skimmers. Skimmers are devices that read the information on the mag-netic strip of a credit or debit card. Some are planted on ATM machines or self-service kiosks at stores. They can be hard to detect. Certain skimmers can even skim the information off a card while it is still in a wallet or purse. Some devices can block the capture of signals from the cards. But even consumers who have such devices should still check their bank and credit card state-ments to determine if their cards have been skimmed.
* Promptly check credit and debit balances for accuracy. Routinely check purchases against the records of credit card companies and banks. Log into online accounts to verify any purchases and report any inaccuracies immediately. Recognizing fraudulent activity early on can help consum-ers recover their money quickly and prevent any further problems.
* Opt for credit over debit. Credit cards come with zero liability policies, which means consum-ers will not be held responsible for fraudulent purchases. Debit cards do not always offer the same level of protection, and debit cards linked directly to a bank account could put consumers at greater risk.
* Keep receipts. Being cautious with receipts doesn’t just facilitate potential returns. Receipts often include a lot of personal information, including the shopper’s name, signature and credit card number. These receipts could be the doorway to identity theft.
* Password protect everything. A lost smartphone or tablet could provide a thief with a lot of personal information if it is not locked down with a password. Also, always use a secured wire-less signal when shopping online or accessing personal account information.
* Don’t carry extraneous information in a wallet. A lost wallet is less problematic when it isn’t filled with scores of credit cards and a social security card. Consumers should limit the amount of personal information stored in their wallets.

’Tis The Season To Share By Tresa Erickson
It’s no secret. Volunteers make up an integral part of many or-ganizations, donating a good portion of their skills, energy and time to the cause. With the need for volunteers so crucial, it
is not hard to find a place to help out, especially during the holiday season. If you are pumped to give back this season and have some time to spare, here are some tips for finding the right volunteer opportunity for you.
What? Before you do anything, think about the causes you would most like to support. There are a lot of organizations that support a lot of causes. What causes are near and dear to your heart? Raising funds for AIDS research? Visiting with seniors? Making care packages for soldiers? Caring for animals? Box-ing up food for the hungry?
How? Along with causes, think about the services you have to offer. What are your skills, interests and talents? How can you
help? Some volunteer work is very basic and requires very little in the way of skills, sort-ing and boxing supplies, for example. Some requires a specific set of skills, like first aid. Know how you can help before you start looking for volunteer opportunities.
When? Consider the time you have to offer as well. Some volunteer work is long term. Some is short term. How much time can you devote to volunteer work? When would you be available?
Where? Think about where you would like to serve. Some organizations are rather large. Some are faith based. Some serve particular populations. Again, what causes would you like to support? Where could you best support those causes that meets your needs and values as well?
When you have a good idea of what you have to offer, you can start looking around. The holiday season is a popular time to give back to the com-munity, and there should be
plenty of volunteer opportunities available. Ask around. Check the newspaper ads. Conduct a search online. Opportunities will vary, but here are some businesses that are often in need of volunteers:
• Animal shelters • Churches • Hospitals and clinics • Libraries • Museums • Music programs • Non-profits • Nursing homes • Parks • Schools • Theaters • Zoos and nature centers
When you find some volunteer opportunities of interest, call and get all of the details. Make sure you meet the criteria and can fulfill the obligations. If you have a bad back, for example, you may not be able to handle donations. Don’t sign up for a position you cannot fulfill or are uncomfortable doing.
Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of others. If you have the chance to do so this holiday season, go for it!

If your looking for an older, smaller dog then we have GIZMO for you. He is a 7yr old Shih Tzu. Ready to be your lap dog.
Gizmo is housebroken and we are told a real smart little fellow.
This is little Miss Penny and here is her story. She is a little Min Pin about 8 lbs, 12 months old. She is up to date on vac-
cines and microchipped. She is the cutest, sweetest love bug and needs a family to call her own. This older couple picked her out from a breeder and could not afford any veterinary care. One day she ran out, got
hit by a car and her leg was broken in two places. They could not afford to have it fixed so it healed slightly off kilter. Miraculously
she jumps, plays, runs and you would never know that this happened to her except
occasionally she holds the back leg up. We are all not perfect and this should not stop anyone from giving this cutie pie a furever home. She is the perfect lap dog and she is housebroken and crate trained. Please call the shelter for more info at 518-654-6220 or
come by to meet her.

Hi Everyone, I’m Max. My owners were moving and couldn’t take me with them so now I’m here looking for a new family to love.
My skin might look a little rough right now but it’s getting better every day! I’m good with other dogs and I even lived with a cat and older kids. I really love rawhides and bones and if you give
me one I will settle down right next to you and entertain myself. With all those great qualities, I really am a catch!
My name is Mona, and I am a beautiful calico with a really lovely face and green eyes. I purr easily, and when you scratch my head I make the cutest little chirping noises. I enjoy being
petted and am a friendly girl. My former family had a lot of cats and a dog, and I didn’t much care for the other animals.
There were a lot of kids and all the activity and noise was just too much for me. So you see I would prefer a quiet home
where I can have some time to myself.

Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Different Types Of Tires Make A DifferenceDrivers rarely think of the tires on their vehicles until they have a fl at. But the type of tires on your vehicle can impact its performance. When choosing tires for their vehicles, drivers should consider a host of factors, including the terrain and driving conditions vehicles are likely to encounter.
Understanding tires and what makes some a better fi t than others for certain vehicles can make for safe driving and improved handling.
All-season tires
The most common type of tire and arguably the best known is the standard all-season tire. Many vehicles come equipped with these tires, which are designed to be versatile enough to grip the road in various conditions. They are commonly made of a harder rubber that will not wear out quickly and will retain their tread. Most day-to-day driving can be done on all-season tires.
High-performance tires
People who live in dry climates or drive sports and racing cars can benefi t from high-perfor-mance tires. These tires are specifi cally designed to grip the road better and offer superior han-dling under higher speeds. Because high-performance tires are made of a softer rubber compared to standard tires, they will not last as long as all-season tires.
Snow tires
People who live in snowy, icy conditions will benefi t from the use of snow tires. These tires are designed with special treads to offer more traction in slippery conditions. The rubber used to manufacture the tire can remain fl exible even at extremely low temperatures. Winter tires are best reserved for extreme weather and not used all season long because they will wear out more quickly than others. They may not have the same level of traction on clear roads. In some cases, winter tires may have metal studs included to enhance traction in icy situations. People who do not want to switch tires when cold weather arrives sometimes invest in snow chains that improve traction on standard tires.
Mud Tires
Muddy areas can be just as slippery as snowy conditions. Mud tires are designed similarly to snow tires but will have extra grooves and a tread pattern that facilitates movement of mud away from the tires and road. Mud tires may be wider than standard tires as well.
Truck Tires
Drivers of trucks or sport-utility vehicles often need special truck tires. These tires can better handle the weight and size of a larger vehicle. Many drivers stick with the type of tire that origi-nally came with their truck. Drivers who like to go off-roading may need an all-terrain tire to offer more traction when climbing hills or traversing different conditions.
It can be easy to overlook the importance of tires, but tires help vehicles remain on the road and can affect mileage, maneuverability and safety.

Pete Bardunias, President/CEO, the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County
A Community Opportunity To Support Saratoga County Veterans
Our military veterans make great sacrifices which al-low us to live in a free and open society, to choose the home of our dreams, drive the car we want, and build a life and career surrounded by family and friends. The USA is a special country, and our little piece of real estate here in Saratoga County became special in 1777 due to the events on a nearby battlefield. Whereas soldiers once traversed our landscape lining up for action against the enemy, today we live far, far away from any fighting, thanks to more than two cen-turies of sacrifice by our fighting men and women. Still, we are surrounded by Air, Army, Navy, and National Guard bases, laboratories, and other sites. C-130s fly overhead daily, providing a constant reminder of those who keep vigil over us.With this strong connection to the military, communities find many ways to honor and serve those who put their lives on the line, each a measure of their gratitude and appreciation. The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, working with the Saratoga County Veterans Service Agency, several local radio stations and pub-lications including the Pennysaver, is conducting a drive to raise money for the Saratoga County Veterans’ Trust and Agency Fund. The effort began on Veter-ans’ Day (Nov. 11) and runs through Pearl Harbor Day (Dec. 7). Your contribution
will help provide job training, education, health care and housing for veterans who need assistance.Donations are suggested in the following contribution lev-els, each given a military title related to the 1777 Battle of Saratoga: Fife and Drum, $5.00; Enlisted Soldier, $10.00; Officer, $25.00; Senior Officer $50.00; Col. Kosciuszko, $100.00; General Lincoln, $250.00; General Schuyler $500.00; General Gates $1000.00. Please mail all dona-tions to the Saratoga County Veterans Trust and Agency Fund, c/o Saratoga County Treasurer, 40 McMaster St., Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
