Nokia MixRadio supports Bristol Music TrustIn December Nokia MixRadio announced a major three-year sponsorship deal with Bristol Music Trust, which runs Colston Hall.
Their support will focus on two fundamental elements of the Trust’s work: a new music series to be launched in 2014 and support for the ongoing music education programme, The Remix Academy. The renamed Nokia MixRadio Remix Academy encourages young people into the music industry, with particular focus on those who are disadvantaged and hard to reach. The support will enable the programme
to expand its work of providing weekly workshops where young people can develop their creative and musical skills, as well as providing access to the latest music technology and fully equipped rehearsal space. For more information on the Nokia MixRadio Remix Academy, turn to page 41. The Nokia MixRadio Terrace Sessions presents a series of summer sessions in 2014 featuring sets from both up-and-coming talent and established artists, all on Colston Hall’s terrace. William Onyeabor, the “cult Nigerian musician adored by the likes of Damon Albarn, Caribou and 2 Many DJs” (The Guardian), is the great synth pioneer who self-released eight nearly impossible-to-find albums between 1978 and 1985 in south-eastern Nigeria. He then became a born-again Christian and refused to speak about himself or his music. In 2013 David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label released the compilation, Who Is William Onyeabor?, to great acclaim after a frustrating five-year search to track the musician down. At tonight's show, a stellar cast of artists gathers to celebrate the mystery and genius of the man. Playing his music live for the first time, this is one of only two performances in the world. The line-up will be announced online soon.
