Case Study Overview
Data center with Solar integration
• Small scale data center in 2N concept powered by 400VDC
• 400VDC used with integration of Solar power
• Feeding IT equipment, cooling and lighting
Traditional Data center with AC&DC
• 2N data center concept
• AC&400VDC architectures built in parallel
• Future proof data center design
Traditional Telecom site
• 400VDC used as „transport voltage”
• 400/48VDC conversion close to -48VDC load
• Maximize copper savings and floor space
High Performance Computing
• Minimum heat load
• Efficient DC power distribution within a cabinet
• Scalability with 15kW modules

Case Study 1 - Bachmann Demostration site for DCC+G Project Data center with 2N concept and integrated solar panels in
same system All components in the system are fed from 400VDC (IT
equipment, lighting, cooling)

Case Study 2 - Coromatic Coromatic as integrator provided energy efficient data center
inspired by Green.ch project to Scandinavian company Separate AC and 400VDC power paths are designed with 2N
redundancy with 250kVA per side in AC UPS and 120kW per side in 400VDC of installed power
8
Case Study 2 - Coromatic IT racks were installed with AC power strip on one side and
400VDC power strip on the other side to ensure flexibility Initial load include 80kW of AC power load (cooling, lighting, IT
equipment, auxiliary loads) and 30kW of 400VDC powered loads (HP and Cisco servers)
Future expansion plans 240kW in 400VDC and 300kW of AC power to be installed
9
Case Study 3 – African Telecom Provider 2 x 120kW 400VDC Power systems are installed in A+B
configuration and 30 minutes of centralized battery backup to ensure support of up to 2000A of -48VDC end loads
Distribution lengths between batteries and 400VDC power system to 400/48V DC/DC distribution can vary up to 77 meters
10
Installation is done on multiple floors with batteries and 400VDC power system being positioned on ground floor
Compared to traditional -48VDC topology for this site customer achieved 25% savings in Capex using 400VDC as „transportation voltage”
Majority of Capex savings is based on copper and installation simplicity using 400VDC distributed over long power lines
