Dear Rev. Dr. Castle, & the wonderful congregation at Jacksboro Parish,
Thank you so much from all of the residents at Juliette Fowler, young
and old. Your beautiful gift each year makes such an important
difference! Thanks to you the spiritual life program thrives at Fowler,
providing support and care for residents and their families. Because of
you, residents enjoy life enrichment that engages them and enhances
their health. You help the young women of the Ebby House, who have a
danger of becoming homeless, access education, spiritual support, good health and valuable
mentoring. You are all a part of these programs that would not exist without you!
Thank you all and thank you for your prayers for Fowler residents. Come visit us anytime!
Warmly,
Ashley Brown

September and October are going to be inspiring for us at The Jacksboro Parish.
In addition to the sermon series that Suzanne and Nick are preparing for September we have several highlights for October involving each of you.
October 1 is World Communion Sunday. October 31 is Reformation Sunday which is the 500th Anniversary of the date when Martin Luther posted his 100 Theses. We are planning special music for that day including stringed instruments, Reformation hymns, and meditations.
November 5 is All Saints’ Sunday. We need your contributions to make this a very special Sunday. Our talented Suzanne and Lindsey will create a photo montage video of all who we remember as saints who have gone before us. These can be family members or friends from our church, spiritual leaders who have made a difference in your life, or anyone whose memory you hold dear. Your help is needed to turn in any photos of those you want to remember in this presentation. We do have some photos which were kept from several years ago, but please check with Lindsey to make sure yours is included. The deadline for the photos to be in Lindsey’s office is October 1!! Needless to say this will be an inspiring presentation.
We hope you will join us in September and October for these inspirational times!

MDO Xtreme
The new school year for MDO Xtreme kicks off September 5th! Our staff spent hours last
week completing training, as well as getting the classrooms and materials ready for children
to play and learn. We currently have all necessary staff positions filled, but have several
vacant spots for children. Help us spread the word!
This year we have been overwhelmed with applications to utilize our Scholarship Fund. Due
to the number of families that have requested assistance, we were only able to grant partial
scholarships in order to help the most number of families. We are in the planning stages for
fundraisers this year and will release details to you as we know them. Please consider a
monetary donation to the MDO Xtreme Scholarship Fund in order to ensure a child can
continue reaching their developmental and academic goals in our preschool. Thank you for
your support. It is very much appreciated!
Youth Fall Camps,
Schedule, and Updates
This fall, we have made a few changes to UCYF (our joint youth
group between the Parish and FUMC). We will be meeting from
5 to 6:15 (for middle school) and 5:45 to 7pm (for high school) on
Sunday evenings. We will be using this time for games, discussion,
and discipleship. Dinner will also be provided. It will be a great
opportunity for youth to spend time with friends, have fun, and reflect
on what God is up to in the world and in our lives.
On the next page, you will find a schedule of these youth events! We
have two camps this fall, one for our middle school / Chi Rho and one
for our high school / CYF. Our middle school / Chi Rho camp is
November 3rd-5th and is called God can take it. Our high school / CYF
camp is November 10th-12th and is called The Lord’s Prayer.
Registration forms and more information will be distributed as the date
comes closer. Both of these camps are at Disciples Crossing in Athens
and we will be transporting the youth to camp Friday evening and back
Sunday. Youth often cite camp as one of the best times they have at
church.
These camps will be a chance to be with other youth from our area, to
walk away from the stresses and issues of their lives back home, and have
breakthrough moments with God in a place that is supportive and
encouraging. We hope as many youth can attend as possible and ask that
you let me know ASAP if you have any difficulties or reservations about
going. We hope that the Church can provide assistance for whatever these
issues may be. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact me or find a time to meet with me. My contact info and schedule is on the board
outside of my office. Peace,
Nick Koontz
All events are on SUNDAYS during
regular youth time (5pm – 6:15pm for
MIDDLE SCHOOL and 5:45pm – 7pm for
HIGH SCHOOL) unless otherwise noted.

Suzanne
I am writing this from my hotel room in
Orlando as I share space with several
thousand people who came to hear John
Maxwell speak. I am so humbled to be
one of his certified speakers and
trainers. Do you know of his work? He is
a platinum best-selling author of over
100 books, and has changed countless
lives. He has helped to form me into the
leader I am, and I wanted to take a
moment to share a great insight he has
for us, in this time, as we share the fear
of Harvey for the devastation that will take years to recover from, and as we embark on living out a
future of possibility in mission and service to Jacksboro with our emerging new facility upgrades.
Here's what he noted this week to me as we talked about moving from a SURVIVOR mentality to a
SUCCESSFUL mentality:
First, you must VALUE THE PERSON. In other words, people will rise to your level of belief in them. It
becomes one of our mandates to value who people are and where they are as we live out our call to
welcome ALL to the expansive table of love.
Secondly, John spoke at length at how we need to GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO DO. I think about
this as we assist those that have lost everything. Are you already at work, church? Thinking about
money, resources or time you can donate to this cause? Can we help dream into being new programs
and ministries that will help the people of Jacksboro know the love of our Savior? How will you DO
that work?
Finally, we would do well to remember that everything we do and engage in should be ABOUT
RELATIONSHIPS. We follow a way that made time for people, cared for their needs, and lifted them
to a different and more fulfilling way of living. I believe that relationships keep people in the right
place. Who do you need to reconcile with? Who do you need to invite to worship?
As we share life together this fall, I hope we finally move out of our survivor mentality that keeps
everything in a scarcity mindset, to one of successful mentality that gives things away and loves on
everyone. Let's do this together!

Rev. Dr. Suzanne Castle
