COURSE DESCRIPTIONThiscourseisdesignedtointroducestudentstoissuesand processes associated with safeguarding personallibertiesof criminal suspectsduring the investigatoryandarreststagesofcriminalprocedure,includingpro-cedures for search and seizure, arrest, application of force,interrogationandconfession,pretrialidentifica-tion, and the exclusionary rule.
COURSE OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course students should possessthefollowing:
∆ Anunderstandingofthecontextofcon-stitutional criminal procedural law.
∆ Theabilitytoidentifyanddiscussthecompetingvaluesinvolvedinconsti-tutional criminal procedure and the tensionthatexitsbetweenthem.
∆ Theabilitytoread,understand,andsummarize appellate court cases.
∆ Anunderstandingoftheprominentconstitutional criminal procedure case lawprinciplesandtheabilitytorec-ognizeandapplythoseprinciplesanddoctrinesinavarietyofcontexts.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:Gradesforthiscoursewillbecomprisedinthe
followingway:
A. Semester Exams -Therewillbeatotalofthreeexamsthroughoutthecourse(includingthefinal)ofthesemes-ter. Theexamswillbeacombinationofshortanswer,essay,withsomemultiplechoiceandtrue/falsequestions.Allexamswillbeworth100points.TheexamswillbepostedonWyoCoursesandIwillprovideyouwiththepossible short answer and essay questions prior to the
exam.However,of thoseshortanswerandessayques-tions,Iwillselectasmallernumberofquestionsfortheexam,excludingseveralquestions.For instance, Imayprovideyouwith fouressayquestions tostudy,but fortheexam,onlytwoofthosequestionswillbefeatured,andyouwillbeaskedtoansweronlyone.Youmaytaketheexamsanytimeduringtheweekinwhichtheexamisscheduled.Youwillhave2hourstocompletetheexam.
B. Case Briefing Assignment – during the courseofthesemester,youwillberequiredtopreparealegalcasebriefoftheU.S.SupremeCourtopin-ion in Wyoming v. Houghton,foundonpages237and239ofyourtext.Thebriefwillbeworth100points. Further instructions on the case brief as-signmentwillforthcoming.
C. Yourparticipationinthediscussionboardwillbegradedbythefollowingstandards:

· allpostsshouldmakespecificreferencetopartic-ular points in the course materials and/or other in-dividual’sposts
