July 2018
As we celebrate our Independence this
month and recall the rich heritage we
have in this country, I hope we will
also take some time to pray for our
nation. Throughout our history there
has always been varied political opin-
ions which has often led to spirited
debate. Often, however, the debate
has been helpful in revealing the pros
and cons of various issues. Unfortu-
nately, we are at a place in our nation-
al life that differences of opinion are
no longer seen as that, but rather as
the “ranting of an enemy.” In short,
our political scene has turned ugly and
sometimes violent. As homeschool
parents, Kristi and I wanted our chil-
dren to observe, when they could, the
wonders and blessing of a democracy
at work. At this point in time I would
be embarrassed to have my grandchil-
dren hear and watch some of the polit-
ical speeches. Respect and civility are
desperately needed in our public dis-
course. So I invite you, as we proceed
towards mid-term election; pray for
our land that God might heal us!

Gospel Hymns
Each July, in the Sanctuary service
of worship, we feature some of the
older favorite “gospel” hymns. Dur-
ing this month we are pleased to take
your requests. If you have a favorite
hymn that you would like to sing
during July, please share these with
Terri, Jim, or Pastor Allen, or simply
write them on a slip of paper and
place them in the offering plate. We
will do our best to see that your fa-
vorite is included.
July 4th falls on Wednesday this
year; because of this we will share
our patriotic Sunday emphasis on
July 1. Please feel free to wear your
Red, White, and Blue on that day;
hymns and special music will fit the
occasion.
The Church Office Will Be Closed Wednesday, July 4th.
Tithes & Offerings Appreciated
Summer is a time when typically our cash flow runs short. This entire year, so
far, has been one that has challenged us to “stay above water.” Presently we
are behind and we don’t want to increase our deficit. So, in the midst of base-
ball, picnics and vacation, please remember to send in your offerings and
tithes. Also please note: it is now possible to do your giving online. Simply
go to our web-site and click the “online giving” button and you will be led to a
site where you can contribute. On Sunday morning, an icon can be found on
your bulletin that will take to you the right place.

We want to welcome our newest
member, Rebecca McCormick, who
united with us by profession of faith
on Sunday, June 17. Rebecca is the
wife of JR McCormick and the
daughter-in-law of Robert. We are
delighted to have her as a part of the
fellowship of this church.
Welcome New Staff
Parsonage Update!
Welcome New Members
This month we want to welcome two new staff
members (new at least in a way). Since
Belinda’s illness and passing, Jim Gregory has
been serving as the interim choir director and
Terri Wadley has been serving our church as a
volunteer director of congregational singing.
We are now pleased to announce that Jim is
assuming duties as Organist and Director of
Music Ministries, and that Terri will fill a new
position titled: Music Associate. Her respon-
sibilities, in addition to leading congregational
singing, will include a variety of administra-
tive tasks within the music department and the
coordination of programs with the Worship
Committee.
We are delighted to have both Jim and Terri as
a part of our professional music team.
Staff Changes
We are sad to announce that due to a death of a business partner, Tracy Hen-
derson (our Administrative Assistant) has accepted a position to work with her
brother in a family business. She will continue to serve us as we go through
the process of finding a new Administrative Assistant and will assist in train-
ing our new person. We certainly wish Tracy and her family God’s blessing.
The SPRC is presently searching for an individual to fill this position.
A Thank You is in order for
our Parsonage committee
and Board of Trustees for
work recently done to update
the kitchen in the Parsonage.
New counter tops, back
splash, and under cabinet
lighting were all installed.

Summer Break
Calendar Changes
The following have been
concluded throughout the summer:
Backpack Program
Wednesday’s Age Level Studies
Youth Group Meetings
Women’s Share Group
Sanctuary Choir Rehearsal
Chancel Ringers Rehearsal
Friday’s Ladies Study
Saturday’s Men’s Study
UMW Joy & Esther Circle
UMM Meetings
Praying in Color
Most programs will
resume in September.
Dates will be announced.
Wednesday Night Meals Wednesday night meals will continue to be served through July 25. (Please
note there will be no dinner on July 4th.) Some have wondered if, as a part of
our summer program, there might be interest in adding a 30 minute Fellowship
Time to our current program. If we were to do this it would probably be either
30 minutes leading up to the dinner (5:00—5:30) or 30 minutes following the
dinner (6:00—6:30). These activities could include: singing, a game, a pro-
gram, etc. If you have any thoughts regarding this possibility, please contact
either Pastor Schneider or Ms. Gerri Holmes.
Mission News We have two trips to UMCOR Sager Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana scheduled!
The first is the last week of November 2019, with a September 1st deadline for
signing up. The second is in 2019, April 28th through May 3rd, with a February
1st deadline for signing up. If you are interested, please contact Heather Gra-
ham, Chuck Bates, or the church office for details and to sign up! GOD’S
BLESSINGS!!
United Methodist Women The UMW Garden Luncheon was a huge success. We raised over $300 for the
non-profit, "Wrestle in His Name" headed by our own Haely Goodpasture.
Haely spoke about her inspiration in pulling the wrestling camp togeth-
er, focusing on the spiritual, physical and educational growth of wrestlers. The
ladies also personally created beautiful bracelets and hygiene gift bags request-
ed for Mission U. Thank you for all who donated raffle items and helped with
food and décor. We will start UMW again this fall. Have a blessed summer.
Youth Going Forth To Serve
As you read this article Kira and 9 others from our church,
along with eight from the Skiatook church, are on a mission trip
to Atlanta, GA. They took off Saturday morning , June 23, and
arrived in Atlanta Saturday evening; they worshiped in a local
church Sunday morning then went forth to begin their mission
work. Please pray for them during this week and for a safe re-
turn.

It’s officially the lazy days of summer! However, we
are not slowing down. We just finished an outstand-
ing Vacation Bible School! We also had a wonderful
time creating string art projects during our Families
in Faith gathering on June 27th.
What’s happening in Sunday School? We just com-
pleted Unit 1 – Jesus’ Teaching. We will begin Unit 2
– Stories Jesus Told, on July 1st. We will explore the
following stories: July 1st – The Two Houses; July 8th
– The Two Debtors; July 15th – The Mustard Seed
and the Yeast; July 22nd – The Pharisee and the Tax
Collector; July 29th – The Ten Talents. We will have
a lot of fun while increasing our knowledge about the
Bible.
Children’s Church is becoming more exciting! April
Petersen and I are in the process of introducing more
technology to Children’s Church. We have incorpo-
rated praise, dance, and learning videos into our wor-
ship time. The changes have been well received!
