CSA Indonesia Summit 2019 Post Event Report
23 July 2019 | Best Western, Mangga Dua Hotel & Residence, Jakarta
Today, cloud represents the preferred IT system by which organizations will transform themselves over the coming years. Cloud computing represents the future of an agile enterprise and new technology trends, such as Internet of Things, quantum computing, and container technologies. The theme of this summit was "Moving into the Cloud" and targeted the user community from the private, public and people sectors towards cloud adoption. The summit discussed best practices and global governance as well as knowledge & experience sharing by Indonesian enterprises that have already embarked on their cloud journey.
PROGRAM The inaugural CSA Indonesia Summit commenced with Laksana BUDIWIYONO (Chairman, CSA Indonesia Chapter) and Jim REAVIS (CEO & Co-Founder, CSA) celebrating the 10th year anniversary of CSA and venturing into a new market. Despite the nascent cloud market, the line-up featured renowned individuals in the tech industry, featuring key topics such as ‘Towards Building a Secured Cloud Ecosystem’, ‘Your Cloud Journey, Secured’, ‘Building Your Cloud Security System to Minimize Breach Impact’, ‘Shifting to Cloud: Hunt Today’s Attack and Predict Threats of Tomorrow’ and panel discussion on ‘Regulations are Standing in the Way of Cloud Adoption – True or False?’. The presentations were delivered by the industry’s thought leaders and eminent individuals in cloud computing, who spoke on topics such as:
• Dr. Hing-Yan LEE (EVP APAC, CSA) shared on ‘Towards Building a Secured
Cloud Ecosystem’ which highlighted the building blocks of a cloud ecosystem
such as ‘developing manpower & competency for industry’, ‘build trusted
environment’ and ‘forge R&D relationships & build knowledge capital assets’.
These focal points go in hand with mechanisms such as legislations and
standards that help in security and data protection that are essential to building a
trusted cloud environment. Dr. Lee’s presentation also featured tools such as
CSA’s CCM (Cloud Controls Matrix), STAR (Security, Trust & Assurance
Registry), CCSK (Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge) and research
initiatives that helps organization to weave the building blocks of a trusted cloud
ecosystem together.
• In his presentation on ‘Your Cloud Journey, Secured’,
Arthur LUO (Head of Cloud Security, South Asia, Check Point) covered the
increasingly automated and sophisticated techniques that cybercriminals are
using to penetrate cloud environments. Arthur imparted to the audience ways to
gain practical knowledge of not only the risks but also how to close your security
gaps in the cloud.
• Security risks are not eradicated with infrastructure evolution. In Yohannes Glen
DWIPAJANA’s (VP, ICT Security Management, Telkomsel) presentation on
‘Building Your Cloud Security System to Minimize Breach Impact’, he shared on
how threats and risks are still present, although different, in the cloud
environment. Everyone plays a critical role in secure cloud adoption. For
enterprises, he suggested best practices such as (1) Patch system and networks
accordingly (2) Educate and enforce (3) Implement security measures, and (4)
Create contingencies. For employees, he listed (1) Keep track of your bank
receipts (2) Don’t believe anything you see (3) Be mindful of what you share on
social media (4) Secure all your devices (e.g. 2FA) and lastly, (5) Do not open
emails from unfamiliar senders.
• In his presentation on ‘Smart Cities: Securing Connected Vehicles’, Haojie
ZHUANG (Director of Research APAC, CSA) gave an overview of the evolution of
vehicle connectivity, notable hacks, current measures and recommendations for
securing the connected vehicle environment.
• Faisal YAHYA (Cybersecurity Strategist) highlighted in his presentation on
‘Shifting to Cloud: Hunt Today’s Attack and Predict Threats of Tomorrow’ that
the architecture for cybersecurity is changing as the perimeter disappears.
Quoting Faisal, ‘Cyber Security is binary. Either you have it or not at all.’
Insufficient holistic protection strategies is the main reason why threats are
growing. He suggested focusing on your team and help them experience how to
operate in a strengthened awareness mode without slowing company digital
transformation activities.
