Cymatics : Making Visible The Wonderful World of Sound and Music Ami Parashar Freelance Researcher & Project Management Professional; Anubha Parashar Freelance Researcher ; Anhad Parashar Student ;Anant Parashar Student (Switzerland)
Seekers have been using selected music and songs
(shabdas) to create an environment, to begin with
meditational (yogic) practices and later reaching the
higher regions of consciousness. There are different
sounds and words to raise consciousness,
corresponding to different religious beliefs. The
authors found that the study related to
consciousness revolves around different mystic
sounds, words, and corresponding sounds of
instruments heard during transcendental
meditation(2). Now authors take the opportunity to
present these sounds in the form of visible patterns,
with the help of Cymatics.
Cymatics is an art form in which sound is made
visible by imprinting sound vibrations onto pure water
using an instrument called a Cymascope. The
intricate imagery is made visible, captured on a
cymascope, and then stored within an app. Typically,
the surface of a plate, diaphragm, or membrane
vibrates, and regions of maximum and minimum
displacement are made visible in a thin coating of
particles, paste, or liquid. Different patterns emerge
in the excitatory medium depending on the geometry
of the plate and the driving frequency. Cymascope is
an expensive & precise engineering instrument. With
digital advancement, new Cymascope apps are
available to conduct experiments even at home.
In this poster, the authors show examples of pleasing
patterns made visible with the "Cymascope music
made visible app." In this app, most common concert
pitch, almost used by every musician and orchestra
in the world (444 Hertz), is used. The words related
to mainly Indian context of consciousness studies
(Sant Mat & Radhasoami faith) are used to conduct
experiments.
