Maintaining The Spirit of PlaceIndependent 5th year thesisIstanbul, Turkey2011-2012Istanbul Technical University
The work displayed is a work sample of an independ-ent fifth year architectural thesis conducted in Istanbul, Turkey. The purpose of this research study was to gain a better understanding of how to prevent the deterio-ration of Istanbul’s urban fabric through urban regen-eration, while learning and understanding earthquake systems in a real world setting. Living and working in Istanbul provided an opportunity to become immersed in the culture and to further understand the sociological as-pects of the area. First hand experience was paramount in the understanding of this particular design problem. This regeneration project was a massive undertaking. I designed 3 types of apartment buildings, a mosque, and a cultural center, along with the city infrastructure and landscape in this area. (1 year project)

The building consisted of an over stated concrete structure large floor plates and small windows. The building had two party walls, one window filled facade facing the street and another facing a pedestrian alley way. Narin Park Yeni KentProfessional WorkCerkezkoy, Turkey2011-presentOffice: Mimarlik Arestirma Merkezi
The Narin Park project is a design for a new city center in Cerkezkoy, Turkey, a city just outside of Istanbul. We designed over 1800 apartments, a large shopping center, hotels, landscape, parking, parks, pools, restau-rants, as well as boutique shops. For the Narin Park project I was in charge of the ini-tial design of the project following instruction and cues from Adnan Kazmaoglu (the firm’s principle and owner). I personally designed the apartments, shopping center and parks along the central corridor. We used Sketchup for modelling; Kerkethea/ V-ray and Photoshop for rendering; and did the layouts in In De-sign . The plans and sections for each building, parking, and site situations drawn in AutoCAD and touched up in Adobe Illustrator. I delegated and oversaw the design of the outer apartment buildings as well as the hotel and outer blocks, that were done by other team members .
