The English Programme
We use our own summer English syllabus & our own text
books specically designed for the summer teaching
programme to ensure that the English lessons are as
focused as possible. The key areas of development are
speaking, listening and writing, with particular emphasis
on communicating in English in a real life context.
We aim to increase the condence of all the students to
communicate comfortably in a multi-national environment
and to assist speedy development in their ongoing English
language learning once they return home. Our teaching
staff are all qualied and play a full part in the life of the
summer school. The English language level of the
students ranges from near beginner to advanced.
Morning Lessons - English Language
The morning following the arrival day all the students will
have an English Language assessment and the students
are placed in classes on the basis of ability, age and
nationality. The maximum class size is 15, but the average
is usually around 12.
Every student receives 15 hours of English Language
lessons each week, taught by the qualied and friendly
Dean Close Summer School Teachers.
The lessons are designed to be fun and stimulating, encouraging the students to communicate freely and
express themselves in English. Parents are often pleased
and surprised at their childrens progress during their stay
with us.
We also offer an additional 5 hours of English Language
classes each week with our English Plus+ Intensive
English course. This is an optional course
which takes place on 2 afternoons each week.
Project work & day trip preparation
Within the 15 hours of English Language lessons, the
students will do group project work and will also have
lessons specically designed to prepare them for their
day trips. This makes their classroom time relevant and
meaningful to their experiences.
