The Operation RoundUp program turns 25: The Operation RoundUp program was founded at Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Hardeesville, S.C., in 1989, as a way for PEC to strengthen relationships with its members and the communities it served. Since then, 252 electric co-ops across the nation have implemented the program, and, in the process, donated hundreds of millions of dollars to worthy causes. On the local front, Boone REMC implement-ed its Operation RoundUp program in 2006, with the creation of the five-person Boone REMC Community Fund Board of Trustees. This board meets bi-monthly to approve grant requests, and since its inception, it has approved 171 grants to more than 60 different benefactors for a total of $390,946.30. Operation RoundUp funds come from members who agree to have their monthly electric bills rounded up to the nearest dollar amount, with the excess change making up the fund. His-torically, grants have been awarded for: community service projects, economic development, food banks, health and rescue organizations, educational proj-ects, disaster relief and youth programs. Operation RoundUp funds must be used to benefit the community as a whole and may not be used for political purposes. QUICK JOLTSTaylor, Wilhoite and Cragun selected for 2015 directors’ ballot The nominating committee for Boone REMC’s Board of Directors met on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and sub-mitted the names of incumbents G. Tom Taylor (District 4), MarciaWilhoite (District 5) and Alan Cragun (District 6) for the 2015 ballot. The election is coming up on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Boone REMC Annual Meeting and Member Appreciation Breakfast. Members wishing to run for the board in those districts can sub-mit a nomination petition to the board, provided the petition is signed by at least 3 percent of the members who reside in the cor-responding district. Nomination petitions must be received by the board by the end of Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015.

The bottom line is: if someone claim-ing to be a Boone REMC employee, agent or representative is trying to get money or payment information from you and it doesn’t feel legitimate, DO NOT COMPLY. Instead, call us at the office to get appro-priate direction.
