2006 G.O. Bond -- $56 million – A mixture of projects: new branches, branch expansion/renovations and branch replacements – 11 projects total: Northlake-Barbara Loar, Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams, Embry Hills, Salem-Panola, Hairston Crossing, Stonecrest, Scott Candler, Tucker-Reid H. Cofer, Ellenwood, Brookhaven, Library Administrative Center
G.O. Bond in the late 1980s – A mixture of new branches and expansions: including branches like Wesley Chapel-William C. Brown, Redan-Trotti, Clarkston, Flat Shoals, Covington, Briarcliff, Gresham, Embry Hills and the current iteration of the Decatur Library.

LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT
Ellenwood Library – a new12,000 sq. foot Community Branch located at the intersection of River Road and Linecrest Road. Construction drawings are being
finalized. Funding source: 2006 G.O. Bond.
Brookhaven Library – a replacement 12,000 square foot Community Branch. Site selection process currently underway. Funding source: 2006 G.O. Bond.
Wade Walker Library – a new 10,000 square foot branch. Site selection within Wade Walker Park currently underway. Funding Source: General fund and interest
payment savings from 2006 G.O. Bond Re-funding.

Through a system of 22 branches, DeKalb County Public Library provides resources, spaces and a wide variety of programs and services to meet informational, educational and recreational needs of DeKalb residents of all ages. SPLOST funding for libraries can provide the means to:
• Increase the breadth and depth of the Library’s collection to better meet patron demand
• Upgrade the Library’s technology infrastructure to promote greater efficiency
• Transform and update spaces to improve the library experience, particularly in our oldest branches.

RFID Conversion & ILS Upgrade (Radio Frequency ID and Integrated
Library System)
Both RFID and an upgraded ILS will increase the efficiency with which the
library is able to acquire, process, manage and circulate materials for library
patrons. RFID supports enhanced inventory management and security. A
new/upgraded ILS, in addition to allowing for better behind the scenes
functionality, will also greatly improve the patron experience with catalog
searching and account management.

Decatur Library Renovation & Parking Deck Expansion/Replacement
The Decatur Library serves as the system’s main library branch
and is due for a complete overhaul/renovation. The adjacent
parking deck, shared by the Decatur Recreation Center is
inadequate in size and needs to be at least doubled in capacity.
$12.5 mil. for Library +$10 mil for parking deck = $22,500,000

System-Wide Technology Infrastructure
To provide for a more robust replacement cycle of IT related
hardware in library facilities– PCs, laptops, printers, Wi-Fi routers,
servers, printers, etc. The library currently maintains more than 900
PCs and hundreds of other pieces of IT-related equipment for patrons
and staff.

serve more immediate communities. The three branches listed here
all opened in the early 1990s and are due for total renovations.

Neighborhood Library Renovations & Expansions: Gresham & Lithonia-Davidson
Neighborhood branches are typically less than 8,000 square feet and
serve their immediate surrounding neighborhoods. Both Gresham
and Lithonia are close to 25 years old and in need of complete
renovations. If adjacent land is available, a modest addition to
Gresham could be considered.
Gresham $2.2 million, Lithonia-Davidson $1.1 million. Total: $3.3
million.
