Introduction The DeltaV OPC Events Server makes it easy to transfer alarm and event information from the DeltaV system.

Built upon the latest OPC Alarms and Events specification, the OPC Events Server provides a convenient way to get data out of the DeltaV alarms and events subsystem and into an OPC Alarms and Events client application.

The OPC Events Server lets OPC Alarms and Events client applications subscribe to a variety of DeltaV event types.

Benefits Alarm and event data transfer. The OPC Events Server provides fast and efficient transfer of alarm and event information from the DeltaV alarms and events subsystem. Process, system, hardware and batch events are available from the OPC Events Server.

Browsable interface. The OPC Events Server provides a browsable interface to all OPC Alarms and Events client applications.

Efficient event filtering. OPC Alarms and Events client applications may filter the alarms and events based on their individual requirements.

Remote viewing of alarms and events. OPC Alarms and Events client applications may be located outside the DeltaV System, allowing remote viewing capability of any or all DeltaV alarms and events.

Product Description The DeltaV OPC Events Server provides an interface to allow the transfer of alarm and event information from the DeltaV alarms and events subsystem. OPC Alarms and Events clients may use this server to view alarm and event information from the DeltaV system.

Client applications “subscribe” to events using various filtering capabilities; for example, by event type, area source, and/or severity. Client applications can view any or all alarms and events based on the filters they create.

The OPC Events Server supports every type of event provided by the DeltaV alarm and event subsystem, including:

Process alarms

Status changes

Operator changes

Device status changes

Batch phase state messages

Configuration installations

The OPC Events Server exposes all of the alarms and events associated with the plant areas that have been assigned to the workstation where the OPC Events Server is licensed. If it is necessary to expose every alarm in every plant area through the OPC Events Server, then every plant area must be assigned to the workstation where the OPC Events Server is licensed.

The OPC Events Server may be licensed on the DeltaV Application Station or on the ProfessionalPLUS Station. There is no size dimension to the OPC Events Server licensing; one license will expose as many alarms and events as are assigned to the workstation.

Events Subscription and Filtering Unlike clients to OPC Data Access servers such as the DeltaV OPC Server, clients to the OPC Events Server do not explicitly list the items to which they want to subscribe (such as the thousands of individual alarm conditions that might be generated). Instead, OPC Alarms and Events clients subscribe to all events that meet a specified list of filterable criteria.

Event filters include event type, area source, and/or severity. A user may, for example choose to subscribe to all setpoint changes in a given plant area. As another example, a user may choose to subscribe to all HiHi alarms within a plant area.

OPC Alarms and Events The DeltaV OPC Events Server is fully compliant with the latest OPC Alarms and Events specification published by the OPC Foundation.

This Server is separate and distinct from the DeltaV OPC Server, which has been an integral part of the DeltaV system from the beginning. The DeltaV Events Server implements the OPC Alarms and Events specification, and the DeltaV OPC Server implements the OPC Data Access specification.

As with the OPC Data Server, the OPC Events Server provides fast and powerful information-sharing capabilities and can run on either the Application Station or the ProfessionalPLUS Station.

The OPC Events Server is compatible with any client application that complies with the OPC Alarms and Events specification.
