In areas of provincial civic addressingjurisdiction*, civic number sign design, displayand placement must conform to strictstandards.
These standardsare presented indetail in thisbrochure.
Any new orreplacement civicnumber sign mustbe manufacturedand displayed tomeet thesestandards.
These stipulationswere created in theinterest of publicsafety. It isessential that such civic number signs beeasily recognizable by both their appearanceand consistency of placement in order thatemergency service providers can locate theirdestination.
* Provincial civic addressing jurisdictionincludes all parts of PEI, excluding thefollowing municipalities: Charlottetown,Summerside, Cornwall, Stratford, Souris,Alberton, Montague, Borden-Carleton,O’Leary, Brackley, Georgetown, Tignish,Kensington, Victoria, Kinkora, Wellingtonand Miscouche.

Option A – Display in Urban AreasIf the main building beingidentified is within 50 feet ofyour front property line(same as line of electricpoles), the number plate canbe attached to the mainbuilding in such a way that itcan be easily seen from thehighway end of your lane.

Option B – Preferred Rural Display
If the main building beingidentified is more than50 feet from your frontproperty line (same asline of electric poles),place the post and signcombination on the leftside of the driveway (asviewed from the road)which serves thebuilding being identified, with numbers facingthe road and, no closer to the highway thanyour front property line.
