The College and the Management
The Academy of General Education, Manipal Established Manipal College of
Education through the Teaching fraternity and Education Trust in July 1965. In
1986 the Management of the college was transferred to Dr. T.M.A. Pai
Foundation, Manipal, a Konkani linguistic minority institution established to
preserve and propagte Konkani language and culture.
From its inception till 1976 the college was housed in the building of Udupi
Law college near Taluk Office. In 1976 the college was shifted to the present
campus. The new building was declared open by Prof. S. Nurul Hassan then
Minister for education, Govt. of India. Till 1980 the college was affiliated to
Mysore University. In the year 1980 the college came under the umbrella of
Mangalore University.
Manipal college of Education as this college formerly known was renamed as
Dr. T.M.A. Pai College of Education, in 1982 to commemorate the fond memory
of Dr. T.M.A. Pai, the founder patron of the college.
The college has completed its fruitful existence of 54 years in the cause of
teacher education and by concerted efforts and consistent quality achievements
it is considered as one of the outstanding colleges of education in Karnataka. The
college is permanently affiliated to Mangalore University and recognised by
NCTE, New Delhi. The College is assessed and accredited by NAAC with B++
Grade.

The Course:
The college is offering a course in education of two years leading to the degree
of Bachelor in education. The college is striving hard to provide rich and
meaningful curricular as well as co-curricular experiences to student- teachers.
The programme of practice in teaching, the heart and soul of teacher preparation
has been well attended to with the active participation and unstinted support of
secondary and senior secondary schools in and around Udupi.
Human Resources:
Right from the inception, the college has the fortune of having well qualified
committed and experienced members of the faculty. The faculty consists of one
Professor-cum-Principal, seven lecturers and 8 members on the administrative
staff of the College.
Material resources
The college building is housed in its' own land of 7.4 acres. It has a building of
its' own with four storeys. Each content Cum methodology subject has been
allotted with a subject room as specified in NCTE norms. These subject rooms
with relevant display materials inspire the student teachers to learn the respective
methodology subjects in a meaningful way.
Library:
The college Library has around 21,000 Volumes. The college subscribes to
about 50 Journals, Magazines and newspapers. There is a book bank covering
different areas of education. There is a book bank exclusively for students from
scheduled castes. The books have been donated by the Dept. of Social Welfare.

OBJECTIVES
The Bachelor of Education Degree course is mainly designed to prepare
effective secondary and senior secondary school teachers. The course
essentially aims at helping the student-teachers become aware of certain new
content, develop certain competencies and understand his/her multiple roles in
the present context.
The course is geared towards realising the following objectives and therefore,
shall attempt to develop in a student-teacher.
1. Understanding of the essential foundations and basic principles of education.
2. Understanding of the system, practices and the problems that accompanied
the development of education in our country.
3. Understanding of the nature and problems of secondary school children and
acquiring the ability to deal with them effectively.
4. Competencies for planning and execution of teaching learning and other
concomitant educational programmes to be carried out in secondary schools.
5. Adequate content competency in two school subjects of speciallsation so as
to enable the student-teachers to select, organise and teach the subjects
effectively.
6. Developing the Understanding, appreciation and skills in respect of special
approaches, learning experiences, methods and tools etc., adopted in
curriculum planning, teaching and evaluation of the subjects of their
specialisation.
7. Understanding of the general functioning and organisation of secondary
schools and thereby acquire the ability to contribute towards effective
curricular and co-curricular learning programmes in schools.

8. A spirit of experimentation towards teaching-learning process.
9. A sound professional attitude, ethics and a desire for continuous professional
growth.
10.Developing competencies and values related to physical fitness, social skills,
community/group living.
11.An Awareness of the need for extension activities and service in the
community and participation in selected activities.
THE REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE COURSE
Eligibility for Admission:
A Graduate or post graduate of Mangalore University or any other University
recognised as equivalent thereto by the Mangalore University, shall be eligible
for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Education, provided, He/She has
secured not less than 50% marks in all Semesters/Years either in Bachelor's
degree and/or in the Master's degree.
Candidates who have obtained a degree from Universities outside Karnataka
State shall have studied any ONE of the languages and at least TWO elective
subjects. Further, they shall have studied one of those electives by appearing in
the University examination for at least two years and the principal subject for all
the three years.
Rules regarding admission, entrance examination, intake, eligibility,
reservations (proportions for different subjects) and related norms as laid down
by the NCTE and the Government of Karnataka from time to time and notified
by the University shall be followed.

Duration of the Programme
The duration of study for B.Ed., degree shall extend over a period of two
academic years (four semesters) as a regular course of not less than 220
working days per year.
Medium of Instruction:
The medium of instruction and examination in B.Ed. Degree Course shall be
Kannada or English.
College offers the following pedagogy subjects : Kannada, English, Social
Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Commerce. The
following combinations shall be permitted.
1. Kannada / Social Science
2. English / Social Science
3. Chemistry / Biological Science
4. Physics / Mathematics
5. English / Kannada / Commerce
Scheme of Examination
The two year B.Ed. course is divided into four semesters. At the end of the
semester, examination shall be held by the university.
How to apply:
1) All the columns in the application form must be filled in carefully and
accurately.
2) The Application must have the following enclosures.
a) A pass-port size photo of the applicant, preferably the latest.

b) Attested copy of the marks cards of the all the semester examinations of the
degree or P.G. Course.
c) Attested copy of the Date of birth extract from S.S.L.C./Cumulative
Record.
d) A certificate of Physical fitness from the Registered Medical Practitioner.
e) Copy of the Final P.U. certificate.
f) Copy of the Transfer certificate from the institution last studied.
g) Konkani Mother Tongue certificate or other Minority linguistic / religion
certificate from the Head of the School or College where the candidate
studied.
h) Eligibility Certificate obtained from Mangalore University by the
Candidates from Universities other than Universities of Karnataka State.
i) The candidate who has studied from other Universities in Karnataka must
submit the Migration certificate.
j) Xerox copy of Aadhar Card and First page of Bank A/c pass book.
k) Copy of the Caste/Category Certificate if candidate belongs to reserved
category
l) Permission letter from the management or from the Department of Education
in case of a working teacher

Selection for Admission :
The selection of Candidates will be made on the basis of merit and other rules
governing admission. Such selected candidates should appear for an interview,
along with the original certificates, copies of which have been enclosed with the
application.
The intimation for interview will be sent to the candidates well in advance and
they are required to appear for the interview on the fixed dates. The selected
candidates are required to join the college by paying the prescribed fees. At the
time of admission, the candidates are required to submit all the original
certificates.

Vision Statement
To make Dr. T. M. A PAI College of Education a centre of excellence, creating
graduates of Education to be the worthy teachers imbued with requisite
knowledge, wisdom, teaching skills, professional ethics and social values,
enabling them to lead an ideal and meaningfull life with high amount of
achievement motivation, integrity of character and endearing personality.
Mission
1. To make quality the hallmark in teaching learning, evaluation, extension services,
consultancy and research internal and external evaluation.
2. To Mould student-teachers with necessary life skills, professional and social skills along
with academics through various enrichment courses and student council activities. .
3. To impart value oriented education by creating an awareness about multiple roles to be
played by teachers and schools in an egalitarian society.
