DT  Process  Journal                   Feb  11th  2011      -‐  Trimming  the  photoframe    After  cutting  the   inner  part  of   the  photoframe,   I  began  trimming  the  photoframe  with  pedestal  drill.  I  first  wore  goggles  because  a  large  amount  of  dust  came  out  from  the  machine.  However,  I  didn’t  use  the  sharp  drill, which  we  required  to  drill  the  holes.  I  used  a  round  drum  sander  to  make  the  surface  smooth.  I  adjusted  the  height  of  support  to  trim  wider  space.  As  the  drum  sander  was  spinning   so   fast,   I   pushed   through   the  wood   so   the   rough   surface   could   be   peeled   (See   Fig   1).  When  too  much  dust  was  sticking  to  the  drum  sander  I  should  rub  it  with  rubber  stick  to  remove  the  dust  and  worked  with   it  more  effectively.   In  addition,   I  used  a  disk  sander  to  trim  the  outer  surface  of  the  photoframe.  When  working  with  the  disk  sander,  I  had  to  flat  down  the  wood  and  I  should  not  go  over  the  space  where  x  was  marked.  I  also  should  wear  goggles  to  protect  my  eye  from  dust  (See  Fig  2).

Figure  1:   I  was  using  pedestal  drill   to   trim   the  photoframe.  The   red   round   thing   is   called   ‘Drum  Sander’  which  peeled  the  rough  surface  of  the  wood.

Figure  1:  I  was  using  a  disk  sander  to  trim  the  outer  surface  of  the  photoframe.  I  was  working  on  the  safe  place  where  X  was  not  marked.    -‐  AOI  /  Learner  Profile      As   same   as   the   other   day,   what   I   had   done   today   was   related   to   Approaches   to   Learning.   I  learned  some  safety  rules  dealt  with  jigsaw:  First,  I  needed  to  push  it  down  while  it  was  working.  Second,  I  should  wait  until  the  blade  finally  stopped  moving  when  I  turn  off  the  machine.  With  the  regards  of  Learner  Profile,  I  was  a  communicator  during  the  workshop.  Although  I  used  a  jigsaw  before  in  grade  9,  I  forgot  how  to  work  with  it.  Even  I  was  scared  to  use  it  because  I  could  felt  the  vibration  jigsaw  made  while  it  working.  I  was  able  to  manage  this  difficulty  by  asking  for  teacher’s  help.  Teacher  showed  me  a  demonstration  of  using  a  jigsaw  and  also  he  informed  me  some  safety  rules  that  I  should  obey  when  working  with  a  jigsaw        -‐  Emotion  /  Changes  to  Plan

Today’s  process  was  satisfying  for  me.  As  I  predicted  in  the  flow  chart,  this  trimming  process  took  long  time.  However,  it  took  much  shorter  to  make  the  edge  of  photoframe  smooth.  I  could  move  to  next  process  quicker.  In  addition,  I  was  a  bit  scared  to  use  gig  saw  because  of  its  great  vibration.  Therefore,  today’s  work  was  successful.
