What will this course involve?

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma programme consists of 2 core units plus 4 specialist units (providing a total of 360 guided learning hours). This course has the equivalence of one GCE A Level and has a strong vocational element. The programme gives learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. These units include:

Music Performance Techniques

Working and Developing as an Ensemble

Music Event Project

Pop Music in Practice

Live Music Workshop

Music Performance Session styles

Students must present evidence based on these units to demonstrate their personal skills and knowledge. This course is continually assessed throughout, allowing progress to be measured and students to gauge their own performance. There is an expectation that students build on their work outside of lessons consolidating work, practising their instrument and meeting home study deadlines. It is essential that students are actively involved in participating in music within school and/or outside of school. Students must be able to play a musical instrument to a good standard (grade 4 and above) as the course requires them to perform in an ensemble and as a soloist.
