NYC based Jazz vocalist Rebecca Angel’s debut EP What We Had isa smooth, soulful, sensual and sultry invitation to dream, love, andreminisce. Produced by renowned jazz/R&B producer Jason Miles thecool and edgy contemporary disc includes 8 songs recorded withsome of New York’s finest musicians. The vibe evokes thoughts ofclassic vocalists such as Sade and Brazilian greats Bebel Gilberto andAstrud Gilberto.

The title track “What We Had”, penned by Rebecca and herfather, trumpeter Dennis Angel with additional lyrics by guitarist JonahPrendergast, is a swaying look back at enduring memories featuringMiles’ keyboards and percussion loops, Christian Ver Halen’s guitar,Reggie Washington’s bass and Brian Dunne’s drums. Angel’s sensualtwist on Hoagy Carmichael’s “Winter Moon” has James Genus onacoustic bass with percussionist Mino Cinelu and soprano saxophonistHaley Niswanger. Special guests are renowned acoustic guitaristRicardo Silveira and cellist Sebastian Stoger on a playful, spirited coverof the Brazilian gem “Agora Sim”. Also on the EP bassist Adam Dorn, and percussionist Cyro Baptista, flutist Gottfried Stoger.

The EP includes two versions each of the rock classic “Stand By Me”and “Jet Samba” the latter of which was a popular radio single releaseto coincide with the Rio Olympics in 2016. The song, originally pennedand recorded as an instrumental by Brazilian composer Marcos Valle, reached high on the FMQB Adult Contemporary chart. Rebecca andDennis also co-wrote the other original “Feel Alive” a charming andinnocent declaration of love.
