While working at Kieding, I have designed and assisted with various commercial interior projects. I have gained experience in layout design, ANSI-compliant restrooms, and selecting finishes. A few completed projects are displayed on the pages. I assisted with these projects from the initial design concepts and layouts through the construction management and completion.
On this page, is a historical display in the lobby of 16 Market. Two original bricks were given to the building manager. We created permanent home for them within an educational display of the building site. I created the artwork, work with the printer, and reached out to hardware companies to ensure the final design would be something we were all proud of.

The entrance lobby of the Cherry Creek Athletic Club was in desperate need of a face-lift. The image below is from before we completed any work. I was part of the team that redesigned the space to make it inviting and new. Between the new layout, ceiling clouds, and fountain, we created a space that invited members to have a cup of coffee and relax after their workouts.

Design frequently begins with sketches and renderings to help clients agree to invest in a higher standard of design. The images at the bottom of this sheet both began as SketchUp models so we could bring our ideas to life before beginning line drawings. The one on this sheet was further rendered in Kerkythea.
The larger images on this sheet are from a mock patient room. This room needed to transition from an operating room to a patient room to a in-home setting. We were able to accomplish this with insolrol shades that had high resolution images printed on them.

While working for Jordin Architecture, I have assisted with commercial and residential projects. I have learned, tangibly, the process of how a design becomes a building. In my position with Jordin Architecture, I am primarily involved in the design development and construction document phases of the building process.
I have worked on three custom home projects, all located in Summit County, Colorado. During these projects, I have learned to work with Home Owner Association design requirements and submittals. I have also gained experience using Revit and have come to a better understanding of the requirements for construction documents.

In residential projects, Jordin Architecture generally maintains a rustic style, typical to the Rocky Mountains. In these homes, details are extremely important. The cabinets and millwork are all custom made and designed to fit the rustic style while infusing the personality of the clients.
Views are also an area of primary concern within these projects. Being located in such a beautiful place, each window, deck, and patio is carefully placed to draw nature into the home. Silverthorne Residence[AutoCAD Interior Elevation]

While at Jordin Architecture, I have also worked on a number of commercial building remodels. These projects take into consideration the needs of a new tenant who is renting or purchasing an office space or retail building previously used by another company. Through these projects, I have learned the specifics and standards for construction documents.
Occasionally, we also use SketchUp models to mock up spaces and sell the building owners on our new design ideas.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore[SketchUp and Illustrator Yard Design]
Iofina Resources[SketchUp Iodine Processing Plant Design]
In the fall of 2011, I spent one semester interning at Habitat for Humanity. During this time, I helped re-brand the Habitat Home Improvement Outlets to the Habitat ReStores. This process included uniform and sign designs. I also helped with the marketing for the opening of their third store in Littleton by creating direct mail pieces and a promotional video. In my final project with Habitat, I used SketchUp to redesign the yard area of the Denver ReStore to use the space in a more productive manner.
While working as the office manager at Iofina Resources, I used my skills in SketchUp and AutoCAD to help visualize the Iodine Processing Plants they were constructing in Texas. With these drawings the plants were better accepted by investors and approved to be built.

In my final architectural studio, we entered a competition set in London. The requirements of the competition stated: use a biomechanical approach to the growth of the city of London. We began by choosing our site. I chose to revitalize central London. After researching historical buildings that needed maintenance, I chose 5 of them to be my nodes of new life. This left me with the problem of how to connect them. I decided to use elevated green paths that also provided for the basic needs of the people of London. The 5 original nodes became 8 when I decided to connect with the major green spaces because they directly relate to the idea of a green path.Halfway through the semester the competition was canceled. At this point our professor allowed us to choose where to focus for the remainder of the class. I chose to focus on the connections.

The overarching concept of my project was bringing new life to London by providing for the basic human needs within the city as shown in the diagram below.
The elevated green path rejuvenates London in several ways: 1. Reintroduces the English garden2. Provides fresh produce for the city3. Creates an easy to travel tourist trail with nodes at the major attractions within the site4. Allows a new vantage point 5. Offers retreat from chaos in the city6. Emphasizes culture and history
The path is 10 to 15 feet wide and contains a rocked pavement for walking that is surrounded by greenery. It has areas that are transparent and allow users to view the city below. The paths walls use wolly pockets to grow produce along them. A system similar to a roof garden is used for the green path. Runoff is designed to be absorbed into the path and fed into the planted greenery.

The path imitates rolling hills; the height changes based on the surrounding views. This gives various vantage points of the city. The plan to the left indicates the changes in elevation: the darker areas are closer to the ground and the lighter areas are higher in the air. The existing green spaces are highlighted and the color-coded the nodes match more detailed plans on separate boards. The entire project was produced with lasor-cut chipboard presentation boards and lasor-cut chipboard models both with pastel details.
Each node provides a unique experience:
1 is a Library located in an abandoned apartment near South Bank University.
2 is a Farmers Market located in a green space.
3 is a Hotel located in a historic house near the London Bridge Train Station.
4 is an Observation Tower located near the London Bridge and Tower of London.
5 is a Hostel located in an abandoned warehouse near Liverpool Street Station.
6 is a Greenhouse located in a green space.
7 is an Interactive Museum located over an abandoned brewery near the Museum of London.
8 is an Observation Area of St. Pauls Cathedral located over a historic bell tower.

21 Denver Refuge Hotel Second Half of Semester
For this project, my partner, Taylor Pridger and I designed a hotel in the city of Denver across the street from the Modern Art Museum designed by David Adjaye. We decided to focus on creating an escape from the city. The Modern Art Museum served as an inspiration for the lighting of our building. Like the MCA, we decided to use light wells and a skylight with an interior atrium that draws the light to the levels below. This natural lighting also brings the users eye to the sky drawing emphasis away from the busy street.

In my Green Technology class, we were given a common item to repurpose and donate to the 2011 Boulder Humane Society Auction. I was given silverware and I created belt buckles. The overall project cost was $40.00 for leather for the belts. The silverware was all donated. The auction price for the belts was $70.00 per belt. Three belts sold providing a net profit of $170.00 and a $210.00 donation to the Humane Society. Each buckle began as a fork or spoon. With the use of pliers and clamps they were molded to become decorative clasps. The utensils were then sandblasted and filed to create a finalized design. The leather was stamped, dyed, punched, and braided to create the belt.

Photography has been a hobby since I was a sophomore in high school and took my first photography class. It helps me to look at the world through a different lens. This has been especially helpful with architecture because it helps me to view buildings from the perspective of a camera. I also took an architectural photography class where I learned the proper techniques to photograph buildings, including proper lighting, proper spacing, and how to take elevation photographs without distortion.

I have always enjoyed sketching, but the summer I spent in Rome where I sketched every day for a month, is when I became confident in my ability to accurately represent a space. During the summer of 2010, I went with the University of Colorado at Denver graduate program and studied architecture in the urban context of Rome. One skill I acquired during this trip is the ability to sketch plans, sections, and perspectives. This skill allows me to better understand and remember buildings I visit. The trip also gave me the ability to see and experience many incredible works of classical architecture.

Inspiration for all of my designs comes from the world around me and my experiences within it. The most meaningful experiences for me have been my trips abroad and my adventures in nature. These have helped to form the person I am today. I believe that design is innately personal. Therefore these experiences shape the designs that I create. I believe nature is the best model to use to inform and craft designs. Within nature we have patterns and structures that can be imitated, combined, and molded to generate the best designed spaces. I have also had the privilege of spending time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. The opportunity to help build homes has helped me understand all the factors that must be considered when designing. It is important to be able to both swing a hammer and draw a plan.
