his Eucharistic miracle happened in the cityof Zaragoza in 1427, when the bishop ofthe city was don Alonso Arhuello. Don

Dorner, archdeacon of the city, left a writtenreport of the event: “A married woman consulteda Moorish evil sorcerer for a remedy to cure herhusband of his violent nature and to make himtreat her more gently. To change the husband’sbehavior, the sorcerer told her he needed a consecrated Host. The very superstitious womanwent to the church of Saint Michael, went toconfession and received the Eucharist. With diabolical cunning, she took the BlessedSacrament from her mouth and hid the Host in asmall coffer which she took immediately to thesorcerer. When they opened the coffer, instead ofthe Host they saw, with great terror, a little Babysurrounded by light. The sorcerer told the

woman to take the coffer home, burn the Holy Eucharist, and bring the ashes to him.The unscrupulous woman did as she was told, but with great amazement saw that though the coffer was completely burned, the Baby remained unharmed.

“Stricken with terror and out ofher mind she ran to the house of the sorcerer totell him what happened. The sorcerer on hearingthe words of the woman, began to tremble, fearinga vengeance from heaven. They decided to go tothe cathedral to inform the bishop don Alonso, confess their sin and ask for baptism.

“The bishop consulted some prelates and theo-logians of the diocese to shed light on the eventand finally decided to take the Miraculous Baby

in solemn procession from the house of thewoman to the cathedral. The whole city accom-panied the procession and was deeply moved atthe sight of the marvelous Baby. Once in thecathedral, the Miraculous Baby was put on thealtar of the chapel of Saint Valerio so that thepeople of Zaragoza could see Him and venerateHim. The following day while the bishop wascelebrating Mass at the same altar, at the words ofconsecration, a Host, immediately consumed bythe bishop, appeared where the Baby was. Thanksto this Eucharistic miracle, the people ofZaragoza were renewed in their devotion to theBlessed Sacrament.” This is the document pre-served in the town archives.
