This year’s sale of standing straw met with fantastic
competition with both straw merchants and livestock farmers
looking to purchase a the crops on offer. Being one of the first
standing straw sale across the UK, it is always difficult to
anticipate the trade that said, the large contingency of buyers
ensured for competitive bidding with a trade that went beyond
vendor’s expectations. Top price of the day was for Winter
Barley which hit £119 per acre with other fields to £113, £110,
£107 & £106 all on behalf of the Earl of Devon, C/o R & P
Farming Ltd of Powderham. Winter Wheat topped at £93 per acre with other fields to £92, £88 and a large proportion in the
mid to late £80s, again for the Earl of Devon, C/o R & P Farming Ltd, whilst further Winter Wheat from Graham Kerslake
of Crediton and R & P Farming of Mamhead also topped at £88 per acre. Winter Oats topped at a staggering £100 per acre
with other land parcels achieving £95, £89 & £80 again for the Earl of Devon, C/o R & P Farming Ltd, whilst further Winter
Oats from Graham Kerslake topped at £70 on two occasions. A small entry of Spring Barley topped at £68 for Graham
Kerslake with other fields achieving £50 per acre again for the Earl of Devon, C/o R & P Farming Ltd.
A pleasing day overall with plenty of competition enabling good prices to be achieved. I take this opportunity to thank
vendors for their continued support.
