I can think of no better place to live up to his
guiding dictum than on Grenada. You feel good
here. It’s that simple. Silversands hotel and
private villas are an expression of the love I feel
for this island.
A place to imitate the sensation of home while revelling in the exotic.
It’s a place to fall in love with both what is new and what is timeless.
Mostly, it is a place to feel alive. I hope you love it too.
N A G U I B S A W I R I S
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that
for a happy life, you should “live in
the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink
the wild air”. I can think of no better
place to live up to the wisdom of his
guiding dictum than on Grenada. I
can imagine nowhere that I could be
happier.
When I first arrived on Grenada, I
was weary. The itinerant life had
slowly fostered an idea that I had
seen the world. The familiarity of a
life constantly checking in and out of
airports and hotels, coupled with the
unfamiliarity of the destinations, had
started to make me tired. Grenada
would be, I assumed, another in a
long string of places I visited that
year. What I could not have known
was that I was about to fall in love.

Grenada’s sobriquet as ‘the spice island’ is apt in so many
ways beyond its accolade as the world’s biggest exporter of
nutmeg and mace. There is spice in the air, in the attitudes,
in the country’s very soul. That old adage about variety could
not be more fitting across this three-island nation. And that’s
what I remember on the first drive after touchdown; as the car
rolled across these unfeasibly green lands, sweet-smelling flora
– bougainvillea, hibiscus, mango and guava and papaya trees,
poinsettia and orchids – carpeted the landscape, a new vision
in vibrant colours to look at with every revolution of the wheel.
What I could not have known was that I was about to fall in
love. Then we arrived at Grand Anse beach. It’s a sight that will
never get old. The wild, almost indecent beauty of it is etched
into my consciousness forever; its white whites and blinding
blues seared indelibly into my mind. I guessed then that this
was a place where happiness would be inevitable. Now I know
it to be true.

Azure beaches and beautiful forestry and tropical
fruit are not everything. It is the people of Grenada
that are all. If I kept a travel diary, it would tell
tales of many kindnesses, both from strangers and
from familiars, all over the world. But on Grenada,
the warmth of the welcome and the willingness
to break bread – or barbecued catch of the day
– with strangers is not an added bonus or the
preserve of the unusually hospitable; it is ingrained.
It is part of the national psyche. I am extremely well
travelled but I have never come across people who
are as kind and sweet as the Grenadians.
You feel good here. It’s that simple.
Someone once said to me that Silversands should
have a private beach. I said, “Not in Grenada. You
don’t need a private beach because the people are
so nice.
You would feel like you were missing out!”
It would have been easy to keep Grenada’s
captivating magic a secret. But that would be to go
against the generous spirit of the people who live
here, for whom sharing is everything. Silversands is
an expression
of everything I love about this island.
I hope you love it too.

Living well is at the heart of our

Silversands is a destination with benefits

Palatial rooms, impeccable service and an elegant
sufficiency of whatever you need, whenever you
need it – however outlandish the whim? Sure.
At Silversands, luxury is about so much more than
what is tangible. After all, it is implicit that the
experience should be flawless; Silversands offers a
landscape in which the gold-standard of comfort
and style reaches a new apotheosis. But if sating
every conceivable longing provides a base coat,
then the sense of freedom it fosters amongst its
guests forms the bigger part of the picture. For
when we are free, that’s when we are really living.

Teetering on the brink of the hot white sands
of Grand Anse beach, with all its attendant wild

position, guests might swim its iconic 100-metre

themselves in the stellar spa; or wonder at the
hand-caught, locally sourced spectacular food.

that has somehow kept its originality is worthwhile.”

The sensation of being lost in this world of
unsullied beauty is seductive; for some it will
prove irresistibly so. And that’s why Silversands
bridges the gap between the five-star hotel
and the permanent residence; dotted along the
beach and amid the hillside above, nine awe-
inspiring villas present an opportunity to claim an
everlasting piece of this undiscovered hideaway.
Here, residents can live entirely self-contained, or
make full use of the hotel’s considerable assets and
services. Checking out is no longer an inevitability.

Silversands is conceived as the antidote to the
faceless, homogenous luxury that forms the
backdrop to merry-go-round of the frequent
traveller. It is a place where luxury isn’t gated off
from the rest of the world, but is a beautiful addition
to it. A place from which to explore, to delight in
local landscapes and indigenous customs. A place
that allows you to get under the skin of a beautiful
country, instead of skimming its surface. It is a place
to be mindful. A place to really live. A place to get
off the merry-go-round. To finally sit still.

hanging gardens. As a window onto Grenada, on this

“Those are the things men need just as much as
they need bread or a place to sleep.” So said the
great architect, Le Corbusier. AW2, the stellar
French design house responsible for the pared-
back yet startling Silversands, adheres to its
compatriot’s sage maxim
in spectacular style.
“Authenticity, nature, luxury and modernity all
come together in the strongest possible manner,”
say Stéphanie Ledoux and Réda Amalou,
principal designers at AW2, of the project. This
is paramount; for authenticity is chief amongst
the foundation stones of the whole Silversands
concept. And Ledoux and Amalou have garnered
15 years experience building hotels all over the
world, accruing prestigious prizes and accolades,
and always, always taking the time to get under
the skin of the local culture, wherever in the
world they are working. For the duo, a successful
building always starts with one thing: questions.
Lots of them.

AW2 specializes, above all, in creating a lifestyle.
And nowhere is this more in evidence than at
Silversands, where guests and residents are invited
to become part of real daily life on Grenada. On
their quest for belonging, the design duo started
with the breathtaking natural landscape in all
its untamed glory, and – in accordance with
the Corbusian dictum – applied order to create
contemporary curated spaces from which to enjoy
the best of the island. Spacious rooms and carefully
created, often surprising vistas across both forest
and beachscapes make finding the beauty here not
just easy but inevitable.
