Utah, Uinta Forestspotlight troublewith bark beetles

The state’s coniferforests, particularlyin the Uinta Range ofnorthern Utah,have taken a huge hit, as evidenced bythe red-shaded areas,shown right. The U.S. Forest Serviceestimates that from1998-2010, 13.6million conifer treeswere lost to insects,primarily pinebeetles, and disease.That represents about1.9 million acres offorested area.
