Digital Switch Over Wandsworth Council is
urging residents to be on the lookout for conmen
who are using this years digital TV switchover as a
ruse to steal from and swindle cash from older and
vulnerable people.
In recent incidents in other boroughs, fraudsters
have conned their way into older peoples' homes by posing as switchover
contractors who are able to help convert their TVs to digital The council's
community safety spokesman, Councillor Jonathan Cook, called on older,
potentially vulnerable residents - along with their relatives, friends and
neighbours - to be wary of the threat posed by bogus doorstep callers
ahead of the switch from analogue to digital TV on April 4.
Any resident wanting face-to-face help can visit Wandsworth Citizens Ad-
vice Bureaux branches in Balham High Road, Bolingbroke Grove or Roe-
hampton Lane . Age UK also offers advice about the changeover at http://
www.ageuk.org.uk/ orAge UK Wandsworth Telephone: 020 8877 8940
Many people will be receiving messages on their televisions now from
Digital UK saying that the switchover is taking place - but channels will
not be lost until after April 4.
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Project Facelift Underway
The first phase of our refurbishment programme hasnow been completed, dramatically improving the look
of our shop front. Weve also installed automatic bi-parting doors that make entry to the Project quick andeasy for people with reduced mobility. In additiontheres a new attractive window display system for ad-vertising the wide range stimulating activities we offerto our members. At last the external appearance of theProject comes close to matching the quality of the sup-
port on offer inside and we present a smiling face tothe world, and those who pass by on Moyser Road.We are grateful to the Wandsworth Councils TownCentre Improvement Fund, and their Cultural WealthFund for providing over 9,000 between them, to theGovernments Access to Volunteering Fund which
gave 2,700, and to Bob Read who gave us invaluabletechnical advice throughout. The total cost of the refur-bishment was just over 26,000.
Heres howthe Projectlooks now ..
