History of Azerbaijan
Garagoyunlu Dynasty▪ Garagoyunlus being originally from Yiva kin of Oghuzs had
played an important role in history of Azerbaijan. Historical sources provide information that they lived in Azerbaijan since VII century. These tribes moved to Eastern Anatolia during campaigns of the Mongol tribes had established strong tribal union in the second half of the XIV century, under the leadership of Bayram Khoja(from Baharli tribe) in city of Van,as a central city.

Jahanshah’s period of ruleAfter death of Qara Yusif in 1420 power struggles began between his sons.In this time Teymur’s sons Shakhrukh and Baysungur took an opportunity and attacked to Azerbaijan a number of times.Althought Gara Yusif’s son Iskender took a control over Azerbaijan,he was defeated by Shirvanshah Xalilullah and Shakhrukh’s armies in Alashkerd battle in 1421.Then in 1435 Jahanshah was chosen by Shakhrukh to rule Garagoyunlu state.During Jahanshah’s period (1436-1467) he attacked in1453-1458 Ajem Iraq,Mazandaran,Khorasanand as a result borders of the state expended in the east towards Khorasan.Jahanshah also attacked to the capital of Teymurids.Although Herat was captured in 1458 but Jahanshah signed peace treaty with Teymuri Abu Said and then Garagoyunlus had left Herat.

During the campaign on Aggoyunlu
in November 1467 Jahanshah was
attacked by Uzun Hasan in Mush
and was killed.After defeating the
son of Jahanshah Hasanali in 1468,
the Garagoyunlu state declined.
