Mount Pleasant to Toolijooa Road - detailed design in progress

ThedetaileddesignfortheGerringongupgradebetweenMountPleasantandToolijooaRoadhasbeenpreparedforyourcomment.Thisdesigninvolvesfinalisingtheupgradedroadalignment,theurbandesign,landscapingandthedevelopmentofvariousplanstosupportconstructionandminimiseimpactsonthelocalcommunity.

• Developmentofplansformanagingconstructionstaging,community/stakeholdercommunicationsandparticipation,environment,traffic,safetyandheritage.

Community advocate appointed

RMSispleasedtoannouncetheappointmentofRowenaLenningsasthecommunityadvocatefortheGerringongupgrade.

Rowena’srolewillbeto:

• Provideyouwithadvice,independentoftheprojectteam.

• Providesupporttocommunitymembersifrequired,inexplainingtheirproblemsorissuestotheprojectteam.

• AssistyouwithunderstandingtechnicalinformationprovidedbyRMS.

• LookintohowyourcomplaintstoRMSortheprojectteamhavebeendealtwithifyoubelievetherehasnotbeenasufficientresponsetoyourissueorconcern.

Construction

RoadsandMaritimeServices(RMS)hascontractedFultonHogantodesignandconstructthe$310millionupgrade.Thenewhighwaywillprovideapproximately7.5kilometresofnewroad,whichwillgenerallyfollowtheexistingroadalignment.Therewillbeaposted100km/hspeedlimitalongmostoftheupgrade.

Constructionworkisexpectedtostartinthesecondhalfof2012,withcompletionexpectedinthefirsthalfof2015,weatherpermitting.Howconstructionactivitieswillbestagedisbeingthoughtthrough.WebelievethatwewillbeabletoundertaketheworkwithonlyshortperiodsofclosingFernStreetorBelindaStreet.Weareseekingyourfeedbackonwhatyouconsidertobeacceptablelengthsoftimeforanytemporaryclosures,aswellasgivingusyouropinionontheurbandesignandlandscapeplansandsomeoftheconstructionelementssuchasbridgesandembankmenttreatments.
