Superintendent News September 2021
This Fall we will begin a new technique on the greens. Beginning Monday September 12th, we will
cut 3 holes on each green. Two out of the three holes will have an artificial plug, which is flush with the surface. Depending on what hole location it is that day will determine which of the 3 holes will have the plug removed and the flag in place. We are doing this to eliminate the excess of old cups that will be in the green during the slow growing months. Based on the amount of play, we plan on
moving these holes every 2 weeks.Normally in September, we overseed the driving range tees and the target greens. Because we will be installing the irrigation, we will not overseed
this year. It’s about 1-2 months away, but here are some updates on the irrigation project that’s coming near. At any time, a contractor will show up to
bore under the streets where our new irrigation lines will run. It should not disrupt play. As of
now, the plan from the beginning to the middle of October, the new pumphouse will be installed on #18. They will remove the little building near the bridge and dig a large hole for the wet-well, pour
concrete, and set the new pumphouse. Then at the end of October, the installing is supposed to begin.
Either this month or October, the pipe should begin to show up and be stored on the course
strategically. Once the installation begins, the hole or holes
we are working on will be closed until the job is finished. I expect a hole to be closed for a week
at a time. All the other holes will be open for play. When we begin to install the Driving Range, it will
be closed the same way until it is finished.Exciting times at the Berk!!!
