Governor’s Honors Program
2012-2013
What is GHP?
0 The Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a six-week summer residential instructional program (four weeks in 2013) designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners. The Georgia Governor's Honors Program is fully-funded by the Georgia General Assembly, and operates at no cost to the participant. Rising juniors and seniors in Georgia's public and private high schools, and students enrolled in home school may be nominated by their teachers.

School Allotments
0 Derived from total number of 10th & 11th grade students in county & by school
0 Changes year to year due to population changes and state allotment changes
0 Foreign Language: you may add one student for each student of the same subject area you send to county interviews (this is not the same as the state allotment rule)
0 Use your allotments for your strongest students0 If you do not use your allotment let me know asap: we use
these ‘extras’ for alternate interview spots
Candidates0 Students Nominated must be current (on track)10th or 11th
graders0 Demonstrate high aptitude and high interest in the area of
nomination0 May be nominated for district interviews in only one subject
area0 Must have PSAT or SAT data (can take to state interview)0 Must have positive teacher recommendations0 Must complete the state nomination form (if attending county
level interviews)0 Must commit to full participation in the GHP program 0 Check the descriptions for each area for specific requirements
Notable Changes 0 The Student Nomination Form is available with the three parts
divided into separate files. 0 You do not indicate whether a student is a 10th or 11th grader on
the Nomination Form; rather, you verify that the student will be a rising junior/senior in June 2013.
0 The AgScience interview process has changed. Details can be found in the Description & Criteria.
0 AgScience nominees no longer send a portfolio to the GHP office with the nomination form. See the Description & Criteria for details.
0 There are only 2 weekends for state interviews0 GTID # is required on the nomination spreadsheet0 The SAT is on a state interview date: be sure your nominated
students do not sign up for that SAT date
