Goals

• Leverage

and

strengthen

established

and

emerging

arts,

entertainment, cultural and historic assets to create a unique

entertainment destination and experience to attract new audiences.

• Position Greater Downtown as the premier arts, entertainment,

cultural and historic destination.

• Provide the necessary resources for Greater Downtown’s arts,

entertainment, cultural and historic assets to be successful economic

Key Recommendations

• Create

a network

that

allows

all

arts,

entertainment,

cultural

and historic assets to function as a comprehensive district.

• Develop an urban design strategy to establish a walkable

downtown that creates a unique sense of place and connects

existing and emerging assets.

• Coordinate more effective cross‐promotions and collective

public relations efforts, with a focus on attracting new audiences

to and engaging them in Greater Downtown’s arts, entertainment

and cultural life.

• Encourage the development of and nurture new and emerging

venues, businesses and events.

• Encourage more activity around streets and other public spaces.

Business Certification Program.

• Support DP&L’s Miami Valley Smart Energy Project.

• Investigate the feasibility of establishing a City of

Dayton geothermal well field utility.

• Revise public policy to encourage green and

sustainable development.

• Develop, promote and support sustainable

transportation

initiatives.

• Promote urban re‐forestation and initiatives that

promote recycling and composting.

• Develop and adopt a tailor‐made Complete Streets policy .

• Develop a place‐based Transportation Plan.

• Identify potential new development that can create new or

transform existing public ways.

• Continue with phase two of establishing an urban streetcar

service.

• Support the implementation of the 3CD Intercity Rail Plan, and

develop site

plans

for

a potential

rail

station.

• Promote downtown parking options and transportation

alternatives.

• Improve the appearance of key gateways and corridors.

• Create a bicycle‐ and pedestrian‐friendly zone.

• Provide fixed‐route bus services connecting Greater

Downtown with all points in the Dayton region.
