ROCHESTER –Holy Rosary Credit Union
(HRCU) has continued their Christmas Caring Campaign by recognizing six more local non-profit organizations with holi-day donations. The Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House, Rochester Youth Reach, Dover Police Charities, Seymour Osman Community Center, Barrington Community Food Pantry, and On Belay were the grateful recipients of the chari-table contributions.
“We are thankful to be
STATEWIDE –On December 25, Sony Pic-
tures will release the movie “Con-cussion” starring Will Smith as Bennett Omalu, M.D., the pathol-ogist who is credited with discov-ering the link between repeated concussions and chronic trau-matic encephalopathy (CTE). The movie is raising public interest and awareness about concussions, but there is still a lack of understand-ing about the symptoms, treat-ment, and challenges of dealing with a concussion.
CTE is a progressive degen-erative disease of the brain found in people who have received re-
able to support the many orga-nizations right here in our own neighborhoods,” said Brian Hughes, President & CEO of HRCU. “This is just a small way that we can say thank you during the holidays to those who selflessly help others in our community every day.”
HRCU’s 2015 Christmas Caring Campaign runs through December and will recognize a total of sixteen local non-profit organizations with over $25,000 in charitable giving.
At a joint presentation at the Dover Housing Authority, donations were made to both
Barrington Community Food Pantry, where Becky Lenzi and a team of 35 volunteers provide food necessities to 70 house-holds a month.
“We are always amazed by the generosity in our com-munity during the holidays,” said Lenzi. “The challenge is making sure we can provide support to those in need all year long.”
Rochester Youth Reach and On Belay were two local youth organizations also rec-ognized this week. The Youth
the Seymour Osman Commu-nity Center and Dover Police Charities. The Community Center provides enrichment programs to the 270 children under the age of 18 living in the Housing Authority, while the donation to the Police Charities will help fill holiday food bas-kets going to needy families in the Garrison City.
“Contributions are always important during the holidays, but it’s donations like this that support our programming all year long,” said Dover Police Chief Anthony Colarusso.
It was a similar story at the
petitive brain trauma, such as con-cussions. Research suggests that the key to preventing CTE is to avoid repeated concussions, and to give the brain time to heal after an initial concussion is sustained.
Unfortunately, many people do not know the symptoms of a concussion. A recent Harris Poll found that 87 percent of those polled could not define what a concussion is, and 78 percent did
not know the symptoms of a con-cussion. Of parents who partici-pated in the poll, 37 percent said they would not know what to do in the event their child sustained a concussion.
“The keys to recovery from a concussion are rest, allowing suf-ficient time for the brain to heal, and a gradual return to daily ac-tivities,” said Brent Masel, M.D., National Medical Director of the Brain Injury Association of America, who added that “CTE has been observed in the brains of people who have sustained repeat-ed concussions, so avoiding activi-ties that could result in re-injury is
also very important.”The Brain Injury Associa-
tion of NH (BIANH) has con-cussion information available on their website www.bianh.org and through the National Brain Injury Information Center (800-444-6443). The Brain Injury As-sociation also works to reduce the incidence of sport-related concus-sions by working with NH state legislators to pass RSA 200:49-52, which applies to all athletes under the age of 18 and bars recently in-jured players from participating in practices or games until they receive written clearance from a physician to return.

Christmas Caring Campaign Continues Through December
HAMPTON – When a donation is made
to The Tuck Museum collec-tion, what is known about that donation is compiled on a worksheet using pencil.
“It’s a rule at the museum,” said Linda Metcalf, who is one of the volunteers working in Collection Care. “This is be-cause we often discover differ-ent or new information about a donation, and pencil makes it easy for us to make changes to the worksheet.”
Yet words written in pencil are a challenge for Metcalf. She has a vision impairment that
makes it very difficult for her to see anything penciled on paper.
That all changed recently at The Tuck Museum with the
installation of an electronic magnification device that en-larges words and provides the necessary contrast for Met-calf to clearly see everything written in pencil. The device was provided through a grant awarded by the Roger R. and Theresa A. Thompson Endow-ment Fund to the New Hamp-shire Association for the Blind. It will remain at the museum for as long as Metcalf needs it.
Metcalf is responsible for ensuring that the records in the museum’s computer database
Linda Metcalf (seated) and Denise Caruso with the New Hampshire Associa-tion for the Blind, at the reading device recently installed at Tuck Museum.

PORTSMOUTH -Absolutely Magic and
Andrew Pinard will pres-ent “Discovering Magic” at The Players’ Ring, 105 Marcy Street, Portsmouth, as part of the Main Stage Series on De-cember 26 at 2, 5, and 8 p.m.) and December 27 at 2 and 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 with dis-counts for students, seniors, and Players’ Ring members. To reserve, visit www.playersring.org or call 603-436-8123.
Once upon a time. In the beginning. A long time ago.
Memorable stories start with a great opening line. While the performing arts tend to focus on telling stories in which the audience are mainly observers, the wonderful thing about a performance of magic is that it creates a story in which the audience is an active participant.
Ever since he was a little boy, Andrew Pinard has won-dered about the world and mar-veled at the ways people inter-act with it and each other. He has spent much of his life seek-ing answers, often only to find more questions. Along the way
he has picked up some interest-ing answers, some odd stories and some truly unusual skills. Rather than trafficking in the impossible, his performances beg the question: what might be possible?
When Discovering Magic last appeared in December at The Player’s Ring it played for sold out houses. Back for a second “annual” series of shows, this “mind-numbing, jaw-dropping, eye-opening” experience takes audiences on a guided tour of the impos-sible and the absurd. Using only the most ordinary of ob-jects, accomplished actor, con-juror, puppeteer, storyteller, and award-winning performer Andrew Pinard brings the ordi-nary to life with the most sur-prising results. The only show of its kind in the New England, audiences have traveled from throughout New England and beyond to experience sleight of hand, con games, psychol-ogy, history, science, comedy, cognitive development, politi-cal spin, and more through the eyes of a “perceptual engineer” on his quest to explore distor-tion and guile. Culled from his popular monthly performances elsewhere and abroad, Andrew has put together a whole new show for the holiday season guaranteed to please audiences.
Reach is in the process of open-ing the Rochester Youth Center, focused on serving young people in the Lilac City who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. On Belay, head-quartered in Newmarket, pro-vides adventure based programs for youth who have a parent or family member with cancer.
“Our focus is to bring to-gether kids who all have had similar experiences to form a support community where they
feel comfortable,” said Stepha-nie Beck, Executive Director at On Belay. “The strategy has worked like a charm.”
The Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House (FHFHH) in Dover was also a donation recipient. Founded in 2014 upon the announced closure of the Hyder Family Hospice House, FHFHH has worked diligently with the Strafford County Commission-ers’ Office to reopen the facil-
ity to provide in-patient hospice services along with love, care and support for its guests with life-limiting illnesses as well as their families.
“Donations like these mean so much to our families and staff,” said Elaine Case, Founder of FHFHH. “We are especially excited to be recog-nized by and have support from HRCU.”
To donate or volunteer with any of the non-profit or-ganizations mentioned, or for more information on the Christ-mas Caring Campaign, contact HRCU Marketing Coordinator Michael Mengers at 603-332-6840.
describing donations accurate-ly reflect the information on the worksheets, so she must be able to read a worksheet about a donation to proof the com-puter print out for it. She is also responsible for making files for worksheets that are also writ-ten in pencil, and managing the files. Currently there are some 6,000 computer records identi-fying more than 10,000 objects,
photographs, records and man-uscripts in The Tuck Museum Collection.
Metcalf has been the keeper of the Collection files at The Tuck Museum for 15 years, but she has been a volunteer with the Hampton Historical Society, of which The Tuck Museum is part, since the mid-1990s, starting as a tour guide.
“At that time I was also Chairman of FISH, an all-vol-unteer service to provide trans-
portation for those who needed rides to various places,” said Metcalf. “Betty Moore, then a Hampton Historical Society volunteer (who is now Direc-tor of The Tuck Museum) vol-unteered as a driver for FISH. I felt I should find time to work for the museum as a way to thank Betty for her time that she donated to FISH, and now I’ve been with the Hampton Historical Society for about 25 years!”

Dear Computer Lady,I read all of your newslet-
ters and find them very helpful and written for the non-techni-cal minds. Thank you. I have a question about FaceBook tags. Is there a FaceBook setting so that I will not be included in my friends' tags and still follow my friends? Thank you, Linda
Dear Linda,When your friends make
a post, or post a picture, they can tag you by mentioning your name, or tagging you in the picture. While there doesn't appear to be a setting to stop your friends from tagging you (sometimes simply asking them to not tag you will be the best solution) you can turn on a setting in Facebook that will allow you to manually approve posts that you have been tagged in before they show up on your timeline. It is important to note that this will only stop them from showing up on your time-line, not other peoples time-lines. There is also a setting where you can control who can see posts and photos that you have been tagged in. Both these settings are found in the same place.
1. Click on the small tri-angle located at the top-right corner of your Facebook page. 2. Click on "Settings" in the drop down menu. 3. When the
Settings page loads, click on "Timeline and Tagging" in the left column. 4. The first time-line setting has a section where you can review posts friends tag you in before they post to your timeline. Just turn this setting on. 5. In the next sec-tion, where it says, "who can see things on my timeline?" you can change the settings to "Only Me" so that others can't see the posts. You can change as many settings as you want in this section, in fact if you change everything to "Only Me" you will be almost invis-ible on Facebook. I hope this helps. Elizabeth
Dear Computer Lady, I upgraded to Windows 10
and I hate it. How can I go back to 8.1? Thanks, Linda
Dear Linda,Microsoft will actually
allow you to go back to your previous operating system for 30 days after you upgrade. Please remember, you should have your data files all backed up before starting this process. You don't want to lose all your documents and pictures. To go back to your previous op-erating system (In your case Windows 8. 1) just follow these directions: 1. Click on the start menu, and click on "Settings." 2. Click on "Update & Secu-
rity." 3. Click on "Recovery" in the left column. 4. You should see an option that says, "Go back to Windows 8.1 in the right column. Click the "Get Started" button and follow the prompts to go back. Elizabeth
Hello Computer Lady,I have tried Windows 10
and don't like it. I want to stay with Windows 7 Professional. Is there a way to remove the Icon in the tray that is con-stantly asking me to install Windows 10? Thanks for your very interesting weekly emails. I look forward to each one. Harlan
Dear Harlan,The prompt to upgrade
to Windows 10 is actually the result of windows update, KB3035583. All you have to do to remove it, is uninstall the update. Here is how: 1. Open the Control Panel. You can either click on "Start" and "Control Panel", or click on Start and search for the Control Panel. 2. Under "Programs" in the control Panel, click "Un-install A Program." 3. In the left column, click on "View Installed Updates." 4. In the list of updates, find the update named, KB3035583 you can use the search box in the upper-right corner of the window to make it easier. 5. Click on the
update, then click, "Uninstall" to remove the update. Your computer will need to restart to finish the removal. Elizabeth
Dear Computer Lady,I love reading your news-
letter. It ís so full of informa-tion. Would like to know how to shorten the URL for web-page links. I know there ís software to do this but not sure how it works and which one is the best one. Thanks for your useful newsletter. Teresa
Dear Teresa,It is actually very easy to
create a shortened URL and there are a few online services out there that will do it for you. First, copy the URL of the web page you want to link to. Next go to one of the online URL shortening services. I like to use TinyUrl.com, but there are
quite a few out there Google has one and Bitly is quite popular. When you go to the website, just paste in your long URL, click the button and you will be given a shorter URL to copy and paste into your email message, facebook page, tweet, or whatever you want to use it for. The Google URL short-ener at https://goo.gl/ keeps track of the short URLs you have created and even tells you how many times it was clicked on. Elizabeth
