She designed apiece entitled "Drowning UnderMe" for solo dancer, JeremiahThompson of Morehouse College.The composers chosen by MissJackson were Isan, "Cathart", JohnBaj, "Abstract Drowning", ThaoNguyen Xanh, "Sad Romance"and her own composition, "ForeverVortex". This work was MissJackson's Choreography II CourseSenior Thesis. She also performedin the work choreographed byProfessor Kathleen Wesselentitled, "Surface Tension". Thecomposers were: Ezio Basso,"Before 6", and "Last Breath" and

On May 4, 2013 the SpelmanCollege Spriggs-Burroughs Dramaand Dance Awards Banquet washeld in the Upper Manley HallAtrium on campus. Miss Jacksonwas selected as the recipient ofthe 2013 "OutstandingAchievement in Dance" award forthe entire department. She servedas President of the Dance Depart-ment during her Senior year andproduced the show for the eveningentitled "All That" that featured theFreshmen class of Spelman andMorehouse College. Her parents,brothers and friends were in atten-dance to support her for theevening.

Chilly damp weather greeted us themonth of May here in the Lake Countryas umbrellas and sweaters tookprecedence over sundresses andsandals. Contrary to the weather ~OPAS brightened our first Mayweekend at Eatonton’s Arts Plaza bygiving us the fabulous “Almost EltonJohn”, on Friday evening and followingup with, “Best Little Theater in Town”(featuring local talented teens) onSaturday. And ~ there is more tocome as the month goes on.

Greene County Players are backat Festival Hall in Greensboro onceagain ~ this time with the Southern-fried comedy, “The Red Velvet CakeWar”. The plot revolves around theupcoming Verdeen family reunion.The younger generation’soutrageous antics have delightedlocal gossips of Sweetgum, and theeyes of Texas are upon them. Add tothe mix, a one-eyed suitor, a tornadoand a red velvet cake contest andyou have the makings of onehilariously funny and enjoyableevening! The city of Eatonton invites you tocelebrate Patriotism with a PreMemorial Day Celebration, May 23on the Courthouse lawn. Thecelebration will include the MiddleSchool Choir, High School Jazz Bandand children’s activities (a clown andface painting). Madison is alive with music thismonth. Gazebo Groves, is an everyFriday afternoon event in Town Park.Bring your lunch, sit in the sun andenjoy a Free concert from noon until1pm. The evening of May 23 bringsyet another Free concert with thetalents of our Lake Country’s own,Pullin’ Strings to entertain you from 7-9pm.

The 11th Annual MadisonChamber Music Festival begins onMay 21 and runs through June 16.Venues include Burge Plantation,Steffen Thomas Museum, Town 220Restaurant and the Madison MorganCulture Center Auditorium.

Town 220 opens the season witha dinner/concert on May 21 with,Time for Three, the world’s firstclassically trained garage band.These versatile string playersperform everything from Bach andBrahms to bluegrass and theBeatles. They’ve played CarnegieHall, jazz clubs and in Europe.Dinner at 6pm, concert at 7:30.Doors open at 6 pm for concert ticketholders only (dinner reservationsthrough Town 220 required – call706-752-1445. Sorrow prevailed over our town atthe sad news of the sudden death ofMrs. W.R. Callaway, Monday eveningat Emory University Hospital in At-lanta. Mrs. Callaway, the former MissAnn Rhodes, was blessed with acharming personality, a friendly dis-position and attractive manner. Herfive lovely children will serve as amemorial to the useful, worthwhilelife she lived.
