Join us June 18 as we celebrate our fathers with
loads of bacon between services in the Family Room.
Father’s Day Happy
I miss my Dad!
As many know, I lost my father this past November.
He was a good man with many outstanding
qualities and I was blessed to be raised by him. I
miss our times together. I miss his laughter. I miss his
guidance. I hate the way fathers are often
depicted these days. Just watch TV for an evening
and tell me if you come across any quality fathers.
They’re nearly always portrayed as buffoons and
jerks or even worse: selfish, cruel, and careless. I
miss some of the TV days of the past:
Tim Taylor — Home Improvement
Mike Brady — the Brady Bunch
Ward Cleaver — Leave It to Beaver
Sheriff Andy Taylor — The Andy Griffith Show
One on my favorite TV dads was, believe it or not,
Gomez Adams (you’re thinking, “That figures!”).
Gomez Adams was a dad with style. He was
always dressed to the hilt with his striped suit and
necktie. An expert swordsman, juggler and knife
thrower (way cool!). He was always optimistic with
a vibrant inner child. He was a lovable, goofy
father and a man who absolutely adored his wife,
and love his children. He was always a concerned,
protective, and tender father. Oh yeah, he was
also a billionaire.
I also really liked ol’ Ben Cartwright.
Ron Otto
Preaching Minister
Ben Cartwright, of the long-running Western
series Bonanza, was a pillar of the community. Ben
was also a solid family man, raising his three
dissimilar sons on the family's 1000-acre Ponderosa
ranch. He wasn’t afraid to fight for his sons as well
as stand up against the wrongs of his time. He was
always committed to doing the right thing at the
right time. At the core of the show was Ben's
commitment to helping his sons to face life with
strength and integrity. Not to mention he wasn’t
afraid to throw a punch.
The month of June is well known for Father’s
Day. Father’s Day is technically not a religious
holiday—it is a secular day. But it is not for that
reason alone, less appropriate for us to recognize
it. We want to recognize dads for a very important
reason. The message that is going out to much of
society today is that fathers are simply not
needed. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
A story recently told on the radio was of a
wild life preserve that had to remove several
mature elephants to make room for the upcoming
adolescent elephants. But because there wasn’t
any mature influencers left behind, the young
elephants became very unruly and began to
attack the rhinos. To fix the problem, they had to
return some mature male elephants to the herd
and it worked! The lesson is too easy; Father’s are
needed. Fathers play a critical role in the life of the
family.
I miss my dad. And I think our world misses
quality dads too.

As a church we are committed to Jesus’ definition
of a disciple: A disciple is one who is following
Jesus. A disciple is a person who is being changed
by Jesus. A disciple is a person who is serving in the
mission of Jesus. I hope these principles will help
you as you grow in your faith.

WELCOME Students Parents
KIDS’ WORSHIP — June 2017 Bamboogie — Honor God Kids live in a world
where there’s a lot
of confusing and
sometimes
contradictory
messages about
their bodies. On one
hand there’s lots of
encouragement to
exercise regularly, eat healthy foods and
stay away from drugs. On the other hand, we are
bombarded with advertisements for junk food,
video games that can occupy lots of time with no
physical gain, and plenty of opportunities to
engage in the use of illegal drugs, even prior to
the teen years. So, how can kids find the correct
path? The month of June, during Kids Worship, kids
will be discovering what the Bible says about
honoring our bodies God’s way. We’ll find out that
in a spirit of grace and in reliance upon the Holy
Spirit, we each must determine how God is calling
us to honor him. For certain we will discover that
our physical bodies, and the way we care for
them, matter to God. Our key verse for June is
Romans 6:13, “Use your whole body for the Glory
of God.”
June Series Titles:
An Angel Instructs Samson’s Mother (We take
care of our bodies for God.) Judges 13:1–14; 1
Corinthians 6:19–20.
Daniel and His Friends Honor God (We honor
God with healthy living.) Daniel 1:3–16.
David Defeats Lions and Bears (God gives us
strength.) 1 Samuel 17:32–27.
God Makes Naaman Pure (We want to be
pure before God.) 2 Kings 5: Colossians 3:17.

VBS 2017 | June 19–22 Join us at Galactic Starveyors VBS as we search
the visible to discover the invisible! Kids will
encounter amazing and wonderful things
designed by the Creator of the universe! At
Starveyors, VBS kids will find out that God wants a
relationship with them!
VBS UPDATE! By the time you receive this issue of The Call, VBS
will be just around the corner. If you want to be a
part of making an impact on a child’s life and in
our community, this summer VBS is a great
opportunity to do just that! We can still use
volunteers and supplies! There are detailed sign-up
sheets at the Welcome Center. If you would like to
sign up to serve and/or bring supplies we would be
grateful AND you’ll be glad you did!
At the Welcome Center you will also find two
very important forms. One is a registration form.
We will not be meeting on Sunday night this year,
so it is very important that we register just as many
kids as possible beforehand. Please register your
children and take some registration forms to invite
some friends. Secondly, at the Welcome Center,
there are ‘door hangers’ you can put on
neighbors’ doors to invite their children to VBS.
Please continue to pray for this year’s VBS as
we search the visible to discover the invisible. Pray
that kids will discover how very much the God of
the universe desires a relationship with them. Pray
for our volunteers and our missionaries Scott and
Kerryn Shaw, that seeds will be planted to raise
another generation of faithful Christians! Pray for
our community and our church, that Jesus will be
made known. Pray that what happens this summer
will make the new school year next fall different.
Save the Date!!!
Sunday evening, July 30, we have reserved the pool
at the Lincoln Rec. Center for kids, their families and
friends. Plan now to invite some friends and join us!

Local Impact Highlight: Renew Consignment and Thrift
RENEW CONSIGNMENT AND THRIFT HELPS LINCOLN
CHRISTIAN CHURCH HELP OTHERS
YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN
When you donate clothing, furniture, etc. to
RENEW CONSIGNMENT AND THRIFT, 201 S.
Sangamon St., you need to tell them it is for Lincoln
Christian Church benevolence. When they sell the
items a percent of the sale goes to our church
benevolence fund. We can then use those funds
to help people in Logan County who have
circumstantial needs.
This is a WIN~WIN—you donate things you no
longer need and at the same time help our church
help others.
LOCAL IMPACT LOVE IN ACTION
If you need help with a variety of tasks at your
home that you are not able to do, LILIA will help. A
few examples of things we are able to help with
are: wash windows, clean yards, trim bushes, clean
gutters, change light bulbs, change furnace filters,
etc. WE DO NOT OFFER TRANSPORTATION.

Global Impact Highlight: Restoration House Ministries: Bob & Carol Miller
Lincoln Christian Church has
supported RHM since its
beginning in the 1980’s when
Dan Clymer saw the great
spiritual need of New
England. We support RHM
and have supported Jordan
& Sammy Plumier, Ed & Cherie Plumier, and Barton &
Emily Shaw personally. Now we are supporting Bob
and Carol Miller, both pastoral counselors.
The Millers have served out of hospitality at Restoration
House—in the ministry center—giving a warm
welcome to guests. They often provided
transportation and/or directions to the airports, area
churches, or regional sites.
Bob & Carol’s main passion, however, is personal care
for church personnel—staff, elders, and their families.
They focus on practicing the spiritual disciplines to
connect the individual to Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Both Bob & Carol show these people how to
implement positive behaviors into their families and
ministries through practical methods.
The Millers engage in a variety of team consultations,
training sessions and assessment tools, as well as
mentoring couples who want to disciple others
through premarital, marital, and parental stages.
Right now, Bob is serving as interim preacher at
NorthPointe Church in Lincoln, RI, where Jordan
Plumier and Barton Shaw also served. As you can see,
this couple is busy! They ask for your prayer support as
they seek to help Christians in New England be
discipled and, in turn, disciple others.
