EAG British Council Workshop by Alex Preston
Karachi: Dawood Global Foundation partnered with British Council to teach 40 of the best
Educate a Girl Winning Scholars about “Use of Subjective Tense in journalism.” BBC-award
winning journalist and writer, Alex Preston, flew from the UK to conduct the training. The girls
learned a lot and the partnership helped facilitate better job placements for the girls.

Educate a Girl with Gillian Atkinson British Deputy High Commissioner
Karachi: Acting British Deputy High Commissioner - Gillian Atkinson hosted and President of
Dawood Global Foundation - Tara Uzra Dawood co-hosted an evening reception at the British
Deputy High Commission for the alumni of LADIESFUND Educate a Girl Initiative - a charitable
program aimed at providing scholarships to girls in Pakistan and Founded in 2013. The
reception was an opportunity to network with young talented females and hear about their
inspiration and dreams. Leading ladies in the media industry were also invited to share their
success stories with the alumni. Senior journalists who attended the event to mentor the girls
included Shahrukh Hasan, Shanaz Ramzi, Sahibzadi Mahin Khan and Khursheed Hyder. The
event was held inside Gill's home.

UNDP Educate a Girl Climate Summit
Karachi, October 2015: UNDP hosted the Educate a Girl Climate Summit at the Arts Council. The training educated an audience almost 400 including Educate a Girl scholarship winners, as well as star student delegates from Educational Partner Iqra University and other leading universities, and select young journalists. Leading Australian journalist Sara Phillips of ABC Australia flew in from Melbourne to conduct the training. Other keynote speakers included Australian High Commissioner HE Margaret Adamson, who flew in from Islamabad for the occasion, former Governor Sindh Kamal Azfar, Senator Khushbakht Shujaat, Deepak Perwani and Hamza Ali Abbasi. UNDP Programme Analyst Usman Manzoor spoke about the UNDP’s support of the education of girls and the importance of climate journalism training.
The training focused in the morning on Basics of Journalism, News Writing and Science Writing, and in the afternoon on Water Journalism,Climate Science and Challenges of Climate Journalism.

Karachi: The Swiss Consulate General Karachi and the Dawood Global Foundation partnered to
host an “Educate a Girl Job Pitching Session” at the Swiss Consulate where select deserving girls

Educate a Girl Fundraising Events
Zumba for Education
Karachi: Dawood Global Foundation partnered with Fatima Zara Mallick Fitness Studio to
hold Zumba for Education, an initiative to fundraise through fitness, with 100% of proceeds
to Educate a Girl - a project to educate 1000 deserving girls in Pakistan to become journalists in
partnership with the Institute of Journalism, UNDP-GEF-SGP and British Council. Almost 700
girls have been educated to date. Spotted at the crowded Zumba aerobics class were KMPG
partner Moneeza Butt, artist Seema Mulk Ansari and news anchor Jaweria Ali, all prominent
donors to this great cause. Zumba is a dance fitness program created by Colombian dancer
and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s, but is new to Pakistan. Fatima is a
foreign-certified instructor.

Bollywood for Education
Karachi: On August 22, 2015, Dawood Global Foundation partnered with Fatima Zara Mallick
Fitness Studio to hold Bollywood for Education, after the success of Zumba forEducation, an
initiative to fund raise through fitness, with 100% of proceeds to Educate a Girl - a project
to educate 1000 deserving girls in Pakistan to become journalists in partnership with the
Institute of Journalism, UNDP-GEF-SGP and British Council. Almost 700 girls have
been educated to date. The event also included a fitness talk by Nadia Hussain. Spotted at the
crowded Zumba aerobic class were KMPG partner Moneeza Butt who is a prominent donor to
this great cause, News Anchor Sahibzadi Mahin Khan, Najia Siddiqui of Adorn, Founder
of Educate a Girl Tara Uzra Dawood, among others. Fatima Zara Mallick is a foreign-certified
fitness instructor and celebrity trainer. Also, Treats by Hania who is a Canadian trained chef,
made amazing healthy treats for the attendees..

Cooking for Education
Dawood Global Foundation hosted a Private Cooking class fundraiser titled “How to Master the
Art of French Macarons” at “Avari Towers in Asia Live Restaurant”. 100% proceeds to Educate a
Girl, an Award winning charitable program aimed at providing scholarships to girls in Karachi
vocationally to become Journalists and founded in 2013. All the attendees were personally
trained by Kausar Z. Ahmed on how to make perfect French Macarons.

Educate a Girl Nigeria
Lagos: Educate a Girl, an initiative by Dawood Global Foundation, hosted a three day training
for 250 deserving Nigerian girls with Pakistan High Commissioner to Nigeria HE Agha M Umar
Farooq as Chief Guest. The event ended with The Foundation partnering with MalalaFund,
GlobalGiving and Participant Media to screen "He Named Me Malala" to the community of
deserving girls, as well as leaders of the South Asian community. Spotted at the event were HE
Agha & Tasneem Farooq, Deputy High Commissioner Asim Ali Khan, Iftikhar & Mehrjabeen
Qamar, Zain ul Abideen, Priya & Begum Asnani, Tatiana & Evita Moussalli, Rafique Dawood,
Tara Uzra Dawood, Dr. Fouzia Khan, Nigerian Canadian poet Juliet Kego, Dr. Muhammad Ali,
Nigerian leading journalist Wana Udobang, Nigerian leading poet Chio Amunnadi, among
others. Many EAG scholars were orphans due to the Boko Haram.
