The Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare will support registered practitioners to deliver healthcare services. The practitioner will be a experienced healthcare worker with the ability to carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks, working under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner.
Assistant Practitioners work at a level above that of Healthcare Support Workers and is a title applied to a wide variety of roles that meet individual service needs.
Upon successful completion of this standard, individuals will have obtained the core skills, knowledge and values/behaviours to become an Assistant Practitioner.
Work as part of the wider health and social care team
Work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner in accordance with employer policy, protocols and standard operating procedures
Have an in-depth understanding about factors that influence health and ill-health (e.g. anatomy and physiology).

Self Study: Learners expected to carry out self-study using Lifetime’s social learning platform, MyLife
Remote Visits: carried out between the learner and their Regional Trainer
Contact: Learners have access to their Regional Trainer via email, learner portal, telephone and MyLife
The Regional Trainer supports the learner in fully preparing them for End-point Assessment through teaching and learning, coaching and embedding learning into workplace activities to aid understanding.

Learners will enter End-point Assessment (EPA) following a gateway discussion with their employer and Regional Trainer.Before the apprentice is judged ready to undertake the end-point assessment by their employer and learning provider, they will need to:
Achieve Level 2 English and Maths
Demonstrated that they have met the standards of the Care Certificate during the first part of their apprenticeship
Achieve the Level 5 Diploma for Assistant Practitioners in Healthcare
Complete a reflective journal. Evidence must be gathered following completion of the programme and during the 3 months leading up to the End-point Assessment
This self-assessment must be submitted to the Independent End Point Assessor as a source of evidence to prepare for the professional discussion
Multiple choice & short answers test
Assesses the key knowledge components of the apprenticeship standard
Observation of Practice
The independent assessor observes the learner during the course of their normal work in their normal place of work
Reflective Journal and Interview
The learner produces a written account of 2000 words reflecting on the Case Management and Supervision and Teaching components of the apprenticeship

Work in line with The Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England.
