Food Banks Fill Gaps Unmet by SNAP;
SNAP Benefits Dont Last the Whole Month
Email: [email protected] Twitter:@hfhpcoalition Facebook: hfhpcoalition
SNAP benefits supplement a households food budget but are often
insufficient to last the month, causing many participants to rely
regularly on food banks.
Most SNAP participants run through their benefits by the third
week of the month (day 21).
SNAP benefits average less than $1.50 per person per meal.
Over half of Feeding America clients receiving SNAP (58%) report
visiting a food pantry at least 6 months out of the year.

Key Takeaways
Email: [email protected] Twitter:@hfhpcoalition Facebook: hfhpcoalition
Need remains high. Must protect SNAP and other
food assistance programs.
Charities already struggling to keep up with need:
need more supply (increase TEFAP), not more
demand (cuts to SNAP).
